Default Either a Tone Generator bug or gain-stage bug

When I set Reapers Tone Generator to -12dB, I get a reading of -12.1dB in the VU

I know this is only .1 dB, but as a testing tool it should be accurate.

Confirming in v6.x and also in v5.9x (32-bit, Windows 7 32bit).

Even more interesting is that if you go with WetMix level down to approx. -29.0db, then meter readout corresponds adequatelly (always -0.1db less), but since then it starts to differ more and more: for example at WetMix parameter set to -48.0 then meters read -48.2 and when WetMix set to -94.0dB then meters read -94.4db ...

Of course it is set to sine waveform.

What is happening?

EDIT: The behavior of "White noise generator" JSFX is the same.
But ReaSynth seems to be accurate, perfect readout depending on Volume settings in ReaSynth (sine wave, max velocity).

Thanks for confirming.

I actually have a long list of stuff I want to post... regarding pan law and whatnot... but I don't want to inundate the bug forums.

I’d have to look at the code to be sure, but a whole lot of the JS plugs use an approximation for converting ratios to dB and vice versa which is not actually accurate and just might account for that discrepancy.

Yeah, you're right, it uses 2^(x/6) instead of 10^(x/20).
