Default Freeze/Crashes in 4.22 (64bit)

Hi- lately I've been experiencing a fair few freezes/crashes. I'm not sure in which version it started, but definitely occurs with 4.22 64bit on my computer. Sometimes the crash log has got a faulting module (plugin, not always the same one), sometimes it just points to reaper.exe.

I've changed the plugin compatibility mode to "in seperate plugin process", but I still get the crashes.

When it freezes I just get like "stuck" audio (i.e. just the last played sound) which plays on until I force-close Reaper.

It can happen when working in a plugin window, but also when scrubbing the timeline or tweaking the mixer. Anything really.

Latest crash report:

pffff...2 more crashes in the last hour. This time both with Kontakt 64 bit...trying to replace it with the 32bit version to see if that helps.

Still odd - never had these issues before.

+1
I only get crashes when using VSTis though (VST instruments), never when using VSTeffects. Also VSTis that use midi and doesn't generate their own sound locks up reaper.

When it locks up I can't even reboot windows but have to hold the on-off switch to completely kill the computer and then restart it.

For me it has happened for at least half a year's worth of reaper updates (I started using reaper early 2012, coming from Cubase AI4 which somehow never crashed with the VSTis I used)
Both 32bit and 64bit versions behave like this, but my VSTis are 32bit so it may still just be those that aren't too good. To me it's just strange that reaper can't contain them like cubase AI4 could, being a more modern program etc.

Anyway, basically this means I can't use VSTis with reaper, and I have no idea why.
Just wanted to share this in this thread, for what it's worth.
As long as I don't use VSTis Reaper is very stable though, so I'm hesitant to blaming reaper for these lockups but certainly would like it to be as good as cubase was for me. Perhaps cubase were more stable because it was older and didn't push the pc as much? (cubase AI4 isn't multicore, for example)

Computers sucks. They take all the time away from doing fun stuff. Like actually PLAYING music with real people.
Oh well.

I am experiencing the same problems. Only VSTis crash Reaper (eg. Kontakt x64).

It might be Windows' fault. Maybe some faulty updates. I also get some blue screens.
Or it may be from faulty RAM.
Who knows?!

Default Same Here

Everytime I try and load a plugin, it hangs on the 'Scanning DirectFX' screen, and only a reboot is reset it.

Repeated crashes with 32 bit VST and AU plugs on Reaper OSX 64 here too.
Reaper 4.22 with OSX SL 10.68.

I'd love to know if a fix is right around the corner or if I should just do a clean install of an earlier version? (I read that 4.12 is okay?)

@3dmus your first crash log is from Kontakt 64, it's apparently firewalled into REAPER 64 (running in its own host process) and it shouldn't be (64-bit plug-ins should run "native" in REAPER 64). The other is from Guitar Rig 3, which 32-bit and needs to be bit-bridged into REAPER 64, alas not all plug-ins like that, maybe the "buggy plug-in" mode etc. can help there.

@all, please post crash logs. http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=36653 It's almost impossible to address issues without them. Also "crash" is only a symptom and while you all have crashes, the reason for them is usually highly individual and it doesn't help anyone (especially not yourself) if you piggyback on other crash report threads. Thank you!
