Default Reaper Recording

I'm fairly new to this recording stuff. The only reason I bought an interface and downloaded reaper is so i could record demos/ideas.

Everything works well except when i record. It seems like there is a lag in the recording so whenever i go to record it is off time and it appears that i start the riff in between beats (i use a click track).

would this be a problem with the program or my interface?

More info needed.

Type of interface?
Recording method? (Live recording, Vst's,, etc.)
What kind of a machine and how powerful?

You should try using the ASIO drivers that come with your Scarlett. I am pretty sure that will clear up the problem.

Once you install them you'll probably have very low latency.

Maybe look on the manufacturers site for the latest drivers.

Yep, I bet that's it. Use ASIO, everything else sucks.

Almost all bundled drivers are old, good advice to check the web site for the latest version.

Can you do some screen shots of the interface setup pages in Prefs, 2bit4z?

I bet it just needs setting up. How well do you know the latency settings screen?

a couple things to check...
open reaper
click on options
then preferences
audio device
make sure you have ASIO selected
then make sure you have the proper inputs and outputs selected.
and that should have your path into reaper all good.

then right click on your wndows volume control and disable the windows inouts and outputs and set your scarlet 2i2 as the default.
probably not necessary but i always do it just so I'm only running what i need.

then open your scarlet 2i2 asio driver control panel and check your settings (not exactly sure what they should be but some of the other smarter folks could help you there if your latency pronlem hasn't already been fixed with the other steps.).

Your latency setting should be pretty low, once you follow the instructions everyone has given.

You may have to play with latency to see how low they can be set while recording. If you have problems at mixdown they can be set a bit higher to take the hit off the CPU.

A little experimentation is in order.
