If you don't need it for live performance, you could use every compressor with sidechain trigger in pre mode. Just copy the target track, pull the copied track backwards in time a view milliseconds and send it as sidechain to the target (pin 3 and 4). Only thing to do is setting up the compressor to use the pre audio from channel 3 and 4 as external/auxiliary source. And bingo! You are now able to set up the attack and/or time shift until it fits your needs and gets those nasty transients.
If you just need faster attack, take a look at the JSFX plugins directory. Even better with reaPack. There are some really nice compressors like stillwell compressors, mrelwoods new "Mother Comp" with 0.1 ms fast attack and so on. Even a 0 attack compressor is there. And most of them have more character than reaComp. Just test it. You will be surprised how good sounding those gems are. (To find them just enter "comp" in the search/filter field.)
