Default Paintbrush problem

Hello there,

I use Acid on my studio PC but have been struggling to find something for my powerbook for about 5 years. Finally made the switch to Reaper, which is looking to be an excellent decision!

The only problem I'm having at the moment is this.

Say I've added a track which is a snare sample - If I want to paint that sample onto that track I have to have that media SELECTED, if I don't my left click just draws an empty midibox. Is there a way to change this?

What I'm looking for is a click and draw thing like in Acid. This might not be possible in Reaper

Old post but I wasn't sure if you ever got an answer.

Hold press and hold the CTRL button while clicking where you wish to draw within the track.

Or use custom macros to make brush tools with the mouse modifier options. that's what I did.

I have a select, draw and paint tool along with a few others. Not the reaper way but it makes me feel more at home.

That sounds like a perfect match for me too. Have you made those available anywhere?
