Default No output from Reaper

I am beyond frustrated trying to simply get a recorded
track to go to my speakers.

I am using a Scarletti Audio interface box. Routing
Analog1 (microphone) to Line 1 out and I hear
my microphone from the speakers.

Now I select Analog1 (microphone) as input to a Reaper track.
I record something and see all the meters responsive
to sound and the track show the waveforms.

Scarletti is selected as the Reaper input and output
audio device. I route DAW1 (this is Reaper track 1)
to Line 1 out in the Scarletti routing. I play the recorded
track in Reaper. Nothing, not a sound. I fiddled with
volume control etc.etc. Nothing.

Why is this so difficult? Reaper knows the Scarletti is
there, it lets me select it! The Reaper track has sound
in it. The Scarletti is sending DAW1 (and DAW2) to all
outputs. There should be sound.

I have a "still evaluating" license on an iMac.

Does the interface have a dedicated control panel with routing choices (eg. the ability to assign the outputs to different sources - could it be set to 'monitor inputs' instead of 'monitor source')?

Default No output from Reaper Reply to Thread

What is happening in the Routing Matrix (View > Routing Matrix)?

Make sure Analog 1 is going to the correct output. It should be going to Output Analog 1.

I guess the Reaper User interface is beyond my comprehension. I disconnected my stuff to
go play music. I get back and connect everything and now hey Reaper's tracks go
to my speaker. The audio interface mixer software meanwhile has no say anymore,
now Reaper is in charge. Tell the mixer app to send just the microphone to Line 1 out,
no effect. Meanwhile Reaper has total control. The exact opposite of previously. Sort
of fun because I can plug in FX. But I need to understand this stuff.

The Routing matrix is particularly confusing to me. I see Mic1 and Mic2 and Line 3 and
Line 4 as inputs (these I can map to my audio interface). But there is then
1,2,Output 1(s,Output1, Output 2 as "destination"s. Which one of these is Line
1 out I have no idea. The manual is thousands of pages long so not sure where
to start. I will give it another few hours but I think this is a tool best suited to
advanced technical instincts and maybe Garageband is enough for me !
thanks for suggestions though !!

I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to use the default card on a Mac Mini and it's simply not working. I've selected, in preferences->audio->devices, both "<default system devices>" and "Built-in Output" and neither make a sound.. The levels go up in the master track, and my stereo system works with other programs just fine, but not Reaper. I've consulted the troubleshooting guide and this seems to be relevant:

"Make sure that the Master output is directed to the outputs on your sound card to which your speakers or headphones are attached."

, but I don't know where to go from here at all.
