Default LTC SMPTE input through headphone jack

Hi all, Feel like the newbie category is the right place for this question...

I would like to do the following:
Take a SMPTE/LTC audio signal from my timecode play-out system via a mini-jack cable into the headphone port of my MacBook. Then have reaper import/listen to this signal as an input and run the timeline based on this.

Haven't been able to figure out how to do this in reaper.
All help is greatly appreciated!

unless i'm missing something, a headphone port is an output & you need an input to receive the LTC

You would be using the part of the jack that is normally connected to the mic of a headset for instance. VJ's for instance use this technique to import a SMPTE signal and have visuals run sync.

First of all, make sure that you can actually get something in through the jack.
Like, try to record from it.
