Volume mixing option in Ninjam
What do you think about an volume mixing option in Ninjam, that a sound man or woman can change de volumes of everyone so the packets are delivered in good volumes to everyone?? Just like with a live band there is always a sound man/woman mixing the sounds and stuff..

Hey, think it's all there. You can change the levels of all players.

You mean a server-side mixer control which allows a user to control it?
Bad idea. This would allow people to take over a server too easily - ie: a bunch of jazz players are playing, and all of a sudden their music goes quiet 30 seconds before they hear the out-of-tune death rattle of a guitarist thinking he can *really* play metal, when he can't play it to save his life....
In the current situation, every individual can mute him, and continue playing Jazz... In your situation, nobody hears each other, except the metal guy, because HE has control over the mixer.
Likewise realtime mixing for a program on a 4 or 8 bar delay doesn't make sense... you'd throw everyone's levels off...

Not just anyone can be the mixer controller. Just some people with special rights or with a vote first.. And it is possible to program it so the levels won't be off..

Volume mixer
Hello ...
I don't think it's a good idea at all , an sound man could do what he want , as Fingersoup said ...
But it's could be nice to have a little windows to mix every channel as existing but concentrate on a windows.. I'm fed up to scroll each time when there a lot of user ... that could allow< to do a mix without scrolling ...
But another idea too ...
Could we make something to save the volume of user , by keeping Ip user , because each time he's disconnected, and come back, the volume is reset , and set to 0 ... rrr
that's really disturbing sometimes ...
ok thx
bye Guyfox

Hi,
why don't you just route the output mix of ninjam back to the input channels (that should be muted for this task) and send that through ninjam. Then everyone that wants to have the mix of the sound man kann simple set the channel from the mixman to solo or mute all others and he gets the mix as the soundman did. But you could get into trouble when the musicians hear their own sound later on. But this could be overcome by using more than just two output channels and routing every single channel back to its own output channel with the correct volume and pan volumes set, then every musician could select which channel he wants to be muted. Okay, but this idea also means that the bandwidth is doubled:-(.

Live mixing
I'm considering using a combination of Ninjam and the Ninjamcast to try to accomplish live worship music from multiple locations, and to have it streamed out to the people listening to the service. A mixing option on that would be really awesome. Considering that mixing the sound live is out of the question, and that mixing and re-outputting the sound a measure afterwards creates the aforementioned issues, is it possible to program something client-side for a designated soundman to mix a measure ahead? Then those settings could be his "instrument" to be a part of the mix that's ninjamcast out. Essentially he'd be guessing, but it's better than nothing. Is that practical, or would that be worse than the other option?
