EZmix 2

Hi!
After using several diffrent plugins when mixing, both purchased and free, I got EZmix about a year ago and have bought some extra presetpacks to it.
I have used it and liked it a lot. After getting EZmix 2 last week I can definetly say that it´s my "bread & butter" plugin! Since I´m not a great mixer I can with a very good resault use this awesome plugin. The tons of preset makes (I think so) even the most hardened mix engineer to find great sound on any instrument or vocals. So from now on, I will use the EZmix 2 exclusivly on all my channels!

I haven't gotten EZ Mix 2 yet, but I have EZ Mix and it's a big help when I'm piecing things together. I'm more of a live performer and spend 1 to 3 nights per week on stage, so most recording I do is out of necessity.

Recently, I did a live recording of a friend's original material (song submissions for MerleFest), just him singing and playing acoustic. I used an Oktava mk 319 LDC near the guitar and an Audio Technica 4040 on the vocals, recorded live into Reaper. The outcome sounded very good, but I went in and used some simple presets from EZ Mix and was able to add some body and fullness to the recording.

I know there are others who may potentially come in behind this and poo-poo the idea of using presets, but EZ Mix has been helpful when needed.

I liked ez mix but then I discovered Izotope ozone 5 omg . If it's in the budget check it out, amazing.

They're both great. I find EZ Mix better for single tracks or busses and Ozone better for overall mastering. However iZotope Alloy is great for single tracks too!

How is it on CPU usage? Does it bog things down if you
have a lot of instances running at the same time?

Thats another thing, it's low CPU usage!!!
I have PC with Intel Duo 2,8 with 3,5GB RAM and using Windows XP 32bit!!
The project I am working on now, I use 7 tracks with 7 EZmix on.
The CPU is curently 50%

noticed the "coolness" of a mix I've been struggling with...

Yeah, it has "gimmick factor".... but I LOVE IT!!! I applied
it track after track, deleting other VST's in the chain.


$179 = best purchased VST I've bought yet.....

I just finished an album on which I used EZmix 2 extensively throughout, along with ReaEQ and the LV1 reverb plug. I am very happy with the results achieved using EZmix 2.

I used EZmix (1) on a previous album just sparingly and that recording has already garnered four music awards. Not saying this to brag, but rather to point out that there are "serious" producers/musicians who find EZmix 2 to be a valuable tool in the studio.

Before I bought EZmix I read a bunch of reviews, mostly by people who never used it, poo-poo'ing the idea of presets and saying if we all start using it all our music will sound the same. Don't buy into that philosophy. All of us hear things differently and on that alone all our various musics will have it's own sound. Plus we're all at varying levels of being a mix engineer, professional or otherwise, and that too plays largely into what a final mix sounds like.

EZmix (1&2) have saved me many hours of tweaking. Yes, you still have to find the right setting that works for you but you sure get a great place to start from. Don't be embarrassed by the tools you use in your studio. If it works...use it!

EZ-Mix is great. Especially on sale!
I bought Vs 2 upgrade for $29 and a 6 pack bundle for $129.

I get better results with EZ-Mix than with Waves Gold or T-Racks.

I'm sure that my lack of mixing skill has something to do with that,
but I'll let you know when I get better - or famous.

Hi Boydbob,

I too used T-Racks on previous album projects but have moved over to EZmix because I like the end results better plus I've found there to be less tweaking of the presets in EZmix compared to T-Racks.

We do make adjustments to our mixing techniques the longer we do it, and the change over from one plugin to another can be attributed to our ears maturing with the process.

Overall, use what you like and keep moving forward.

I was thinking about buying ez mix, thought I'd look here first. It seems more like a sound shaper, like which distortion sound for guitar or which reverb sound for drums rather than a mixing tool, like isn't mixing about balanced levels and getting each track to sit well and have its own space for the mix? Or maybe combined with eq for gentle sculpting, carving it could be something like that... Other than vocals, most of the instruments and sounds I use /make already have the tone I want from the get go. Should I get ez mix or would izotope neutron be better I'm my situation? again, My main goal of mixing is to get all the tracks to play nice and have their own space.....

I own both and frankly tend not to use either for balancing mixes.

They both do what they do OK but the more I learn about stuff in Reaper itself & the theory and practice of mixing, the less I find myself relying on one-size-fits-all plugins.

My advice would probably be to demo them both (if possible - dont remember) and probably buy them both!
