Very nice stereo editor for Reaper?

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1251.html announces Acoustica 4 - which I'm currently having a quick try of, and I'm pretty gobsmacked. $40 only.... Its interface panels can be laid out like in Audition 2.0 to customise the way it looks, which is a remarkable achievement in low-cost small-installer software, and the rest of the program looks pretty good too.

Yes, i had a look at this as well. Looks nice!
I have been looking around for a cheap(/free) audio editor to complement Reaper. Audacity could do the job, but wont save to the original file, and that makes it to backwards to work with. Wavosaur seems promising, but is still in alpha and will not save at all.
Anybody got any other good option for a small budget audio editor here besides this (Acoustica 4) prog ?

Audacity can save to the original file using the Export function. It's quite easy to setup a keyboard shortcut. You have to choose to overwrite the old file though.

Yes, thanks for your reply!
I knew that you can export the wave, what I find annoying is that I have to click to the right folder and choose the file to write too. this takes too much time.. unless I have missed something here?

You're right - that's the drawback.

Hmm, I think many people before requested that...

And I still do not understand, why reaper has no Stereo Editor... I think the features of Reaper would already be enough to build a little Audio Editor. This would be just another view... OK, the option to use another program is very nice for those who have some expensive programs...

But a little one would be very good

Wavesurgeon is a very, very nice editior... especially for drum loops.

The demo has very few restrictions - but hey, it's not expensive anyway...

35 bucks for the basic version.

Wavesurgeon looks more loop oriented - which of course is exactly what some people want!

Like I've said before, Reaper makes a perfectly good stereo editor on its own (and can be set up as the editor to be called from Reaper) if you turn on "ripple editing all tracks". What it lacks compared with (say) Acoustica is the noise reduction /declicking tools and other specialised mastering stuff, and maybe drag and drop between two or more files - which brings us back to "paste insert"...

Wouldn´t Glue Items do that? (paste insert)

acoustica is nice, but the cpu usage is ridiculous.

I was getting upwards of 78 percent cpu usage!?!??!

it was looking good cause it saves directly to wav, but I uninstalled the demo the second i saw the cpu go up that high, with all of its animations turned off.

The frequency display in acoustica seems a bit of a hog, but with that off CPU usage seemed reasonable.

Most of the time, I use WavePad with students.
It has all we need for basic edition plus some nice surprises, and is free : http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/

At what point were you seeing that usage? Was it during playback, or a render, or what?

NICE! I was looking for a free editor for my students as well
too bad it doesn't do live VST effects

I had also high cpu on this prog (80-90 %) when normal playback.
Figured out it would drop to less than half (30-40 %) when I unchecked 'skin windows frames and controls' under options/prefs.
Its still much higher than Audacity and soundforge, but usable.
Hope they optimize this prog some more, because it really is a good low-budget alternativ.
