Default Reaper and EWI 5000

I need help getting reaper to find my new EWI 5000. It has no problem with my EWI usb. The problem is the 5000 is not in any of the vst folders, it shows up in win 7x64 as a device in printers and devices. Cubase, Standalone Halion and Aria all show it as inputs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you read the manual on setting up virtual instruments?

Does the EWI come with a sound module, or is it shipped with a virtual instrument you can use in Reaper?

The EWI should show up (I think) as a MIDI device within your Reaper Preferences/Options menu under MIDI devices.
You will have to enable it in order to get its MIDI output into Reaper & then open a new track with a virtual instrument on it which can then receive the MIDI from your wind controller and turn it into audio for you.
However IF it comes with a module, you are going to have to figure out how to trigger the module sounds from within Reaper.
This is not exactly straight forward in any DAW, but do some reading and figuring out and get back to us if you need any more help.

One thing: decent wind libraries/VSTis are not cheap.
I bought Chris Hein Compact horns on sale a while back but it was still a fair bit of money.
Worth it though.

Default not in vsti folders

Thanks for the reply ivansc. Yes I have tons of virtual instruments, and under other hosts, they work perfectly. The problem is that the EWI 5000 doesn't show up in any of the VST folders, it only shows up in "Printers and Devices" as a device , and only when it is midi or usb-ed in. I need a reaper expert to tell me how I can get Reaper to look for it in "Printers and Devices". Please Help
Thanks

YOU ARE LOOKING AT THIS FROM THE WRONG DIRECTION.
for your purposes you need to be looking in the MIDI devices, not VSTs.
Sorry about caps!

Open Reaper.

Go to Options/Preferences.
Open MIDI Devices and see if your EWI is showing up in the list of MIDI devices attached to your computer.
It may be called something other than EWI 5000 though. Maybe AkaiUSBCOntroller
Assuming it is ther , you should be able to enable it.
Reaper will now be seeing it.
Set the MIDI output channel from the EWI to match Reapers track input and you will have MIDI activity showing in the track as a red line in the meter for that track (mixer view) even if you don`t have any sound at that stage.
Once you are sure you have |MIDI passing, instantiate (hate that word) a VSTi and set its MIDI receive channel to match the EWI`s send channel. Dont forget to make sure record monitoring is on either Auto or On.
I rather doubt this is the problem though.
You HAVE switched the wireless on your EWI off, havent you

My work here is done.

P.S. Just in case this stumps someone else, what WAS the MIDI device called?
