Default scrollbar.png

When I edit this png file (WT's Colonial theme if it matters) if I change the color of a few pixels in one of the scrollbar elements and then save the file I get a white outline around the scrollbar when I reload the theme. I go back and undo the changes (in MS Paint if that matters) and resave, no change, I still get the white outline. If I overwrite the png with a copy of the original everything goes back to normal. Obviously I'm boogering this up somehow I just don't understand how.

MS Paint is not good.

Use something else.

For those little edits i use Pixelformer. Small, easy and fast.

Paint does not work with transparency. When you open the image in paint, what's fully transparent shows up as white, and probably saves as white too.

Thanks for the advise. Pixelformer did the trick but now I have another question. Is there a way to get custom colors? A quick go round didn't reveal anything obvious.

I know zero about layers and transparency so I guess I'm looking at another learning curve. I was hoping this would be like first grade, pick a crayon and stay inside the lines and a cookie was all but guaranteed.

I think I found what I'm looking for. What I want to do is have several shades of the same color. I found if I click on the colored square on the right margin where the pen, brush etc are I get an option to shift the color around. I think that'll do what I'm looking for.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
