JS Plugins Crash the latest pre-release of Reaper (SOLVED)
v5.50reapre2 - August 9 2017 seems to have a problem when opening JS plugins.
No matter what JS plugin I choose, it immediately crashes Reaper.
Windows forced the Creator Update 1706 on our two rigs and both of them have the same problem. I will test the public release to verify that it's not just the Pre release version.

The latest public release of Reaper 5.40 also crashes immediately when any JS plugin in placed on a track and the GUI for the JS plugin opens.
I believe this is some incompatibility with Windows 10 Creator Update and the JS plugins.
I can't go roll back to a previous version of Windows 10 because Microsoft starts downloading and preparing parts of the Creator Update install while I work. This cause Reaper to become unstable so I went ahead and allow the update.

I may have found a solution but I'm not sure if this fix will affect anything negatively. Folder AppData/ Roaming/ REAPER was marked 'Read Only' I unchecked 'Read Only' and applied full permissions on the folder and it contents.
The plugins now open properly without crashing Reaper. Perhaps Windows 10 Creator Addition change permissions or Read permissions when updating.

AFAIK, that is not supposed to happen. There must have been some queer stuff going on...

Any ideas guys? I'm not super great at reading these error reports. Do you think it's plugin related?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Attached is quite a few more crashes. Some are related to the original post where I try to open a JS plugin on a track and Reaper crashes. Yesterday and today Reaper has been freezing and crashing while working. I've included those crashes.
I'm also experiencing problems exporting and importing my configuration file. I was able to export my config on a separate machine but I can't import it into a fresh install of Reaper. I'll send my Reaper App Data folder as well as my config file for testing.

Hmm, odd. Can you do the following:
1) Run REAPER x64 (it must be the 64-bit version)
2) Create a blank project, then add a JSFX which would cause the crash
3) Before dismissing the crash, go to the task manager, right click on REAPER.exe, and choose "Create Dump File" or similar.
4) zip that dump file, and post it somewhere for us to download. Email that link to support at cockos.com.
Thanks!

Thanks for testing this out Justin. Really grateful.
I'm guessing that the Windows 10 Creator Update 1703 broke something. MS basically forced me to update because it starting auto installing some of the update even though I had check 'defer updates'. This was happening everyday while I worked in Reaper which caused some crashes as well. So I gave in and allow the update to fully install.... That was a bad choice....
Even more troublesome is that the update deleted all my restore points so It doesn't seem like there is an easy way to roll back.

Thanks, I'll check that dump out to see whaet I can find. I only have one Win10 machine which has updated to 1703 so far, but it works fine. So maybe there's a particular plug-in causing the incompatibility...

Looked at the dump file -- try uninstalling MacType, it breaks with 1703 apparently (and is the cause of that particular crash, from what I can tell).

Looks like that might have been the culprit. As soon as I uninstalled it, Reaper doesn't crash on JS plugs or exporting preferences. Thank you Justin.
