Default Why Should You Use REAPER - Vol.1 (VIDEO SERIES)

Few days ago I saw that fancy new Ableton Live 10 announcement.
I was pretty pissed when I realized that they were bragging about some features that REAPER has for centuries so I decided to start a video series that will explain to people the possibilities of REAPER.

https://youtu.be/NgbEo906XWs

Hope you like it.

Neat. You pack a heck of a lot of info into a 3 minute video without it seeming to be rushed, and use visual and audio stimulation really effectively. Very well done!

Great job.

The fact that we were hearing what we were seeing was crazy.

Must have been a PITA to do.

Really impressive.

Hi Nikola.

Very well done. Especially the synchronization that makes it very alive.

Want to try it now

Cool video. Why you would get mad at an update of Ableton Live is beyond me though.

I'm not mad at an update. I'm mad because I really think that REAPER is very underrated in music production, and especially in sound design community.
Whenever I watch promotional videos for Nuendo, Cubase, Protools, Ableton etc. I'm always like, cool, but REAPER has this feature for at least 3 years and people still don't know about it. So, my new goal is to try to change that, because, discovery of REAPER really changed my life, work and the way I think.

Maybe the features you show are not the coolest, but the video looks really professional! I like it a lot!
I believe your videos will be on the main REAPER site.

Can't check your video right now, but yes, when I saw the Ableton 10 promo thing, I realized that many features are there in Reaper.

But... I also saw a video of a real life usage of Ableton 10 and I was totally blown away...

I'll stick to Reaper.. but I would love to have such an intuitive and fast workflow.
What I am missing in Reaper is a place to create "clips", that would be different from the "arrange view".
In Fl Studio or Ableton, you can work on a small idea, refine it, and then reuse it.

With reaper, it is often a PITA to reuse a block, you have to copy paste and not forget to "ghost copy", and in the end, it works... but...

I don't really need it, but when fiddling around I once would have liked to render a piece according to a part list (such as "AABABBA") and was asonished that I did not find anything about this issue in the Guide. I recently asked in the forum, but no answer.

Checked your video: excellent work!!

To add to it, there are some of the features I really love in Reaper, and that I use all the time, such as the stretch, byt alt+clicking an edge, or the move of the waveform within the item, two features announced as "new" in Ableton 10

Also, the possibility to use a native (I mean, opposed to "custom") keyboard shortcut to simply pitch up or down a midi or an item. I do this all the time!

Do you know about creating and using regions? Sounds like the same thing to me.

That is easy and explains why I did not find it in the Reaper Guide.

to be honest ! Specially Ableton users without this requests filled won't come easily:

Simple Edit Workflow:
- Area / Region Selection
- Same duplicate shortcut for everything (https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=196151)
- Grid on transport (https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=193587)

I think reaper still is a big turn down. Just because Ableton users tend to be Electronic Music Bedroom producers probably with a single monitor and don't expect to learn a new workflow which is really limited as it is IMO specially dealing with automations.

For Features
- Sampler with time stretch
- Macros
- Slicer

Because they are awesome and so tend do be essencial for anyone used to Ableton specially Electronic Musicians which are most of them.
And no plugin can do this job so it must be assumed natively.

I came from other DAWs and i love reaper but i still didn't get used to the lack of Simple Edit Workflow i told before.

Just saying!
Thanks

not really... ? A region (at least in my understanding) is a region... for all tracks....
The feature I see in Ableton of FL is the ability to have building blocks that you then place on your... arrange view.

But I found a kind of workaround for this, I have a track folder called "ARCHIVE" it is always "mute", and under it I have several tracks which hold my original clips and items. It is my "work zone"

WOW!! My jaw is dropping, as this is another problem I face for each "beat" I produce...

I work on a intro / chorus / verse small project, and I loop over chorus / verse...
But then I want to render the song... and I copy paste, this is a process I hate, many errors, and if I change a bit, I have to think to copy it everywhere...

This SWS playlist thing I just tried is sooo cooll!!! Exactly what I needed !!
