A way to have working modes: Area selection mode, select mode , delete/cut mode, stretch mode , etc ..

Exactly i made a small example of what could be possible and how much a tool could simplify things. Now think how much key combinations you have to make in order to use all modifiers for each context, while with this way you use the same key modifiers and way less
Paint mode
(Track context-left Drag)
default-draw item
Shift-draw item ingoring snap
Ctrl- draw item, pool midi
Alt-draw item loop visible or time selected section
Now i'm going to use the same key modifiers for the same context but with different actions
Area selection mode
(Track context-left drag)
Default-add area selection
Shift-add area ignoring snap
Ctrl-copy area selection
Alt-Add to area selection
ctrl+shift-copy area ignoring snap
----------------------------------
Split mode
(Media item context-left click)
Default-split on edit cursor
Shift-split ignoring snap
Ctrl-split on grid
Alt-split on transients
Again, same key modifiers for the same context but with different actions
Select item mode
(Media item context-left click)
default-select item
shift-add a range of items to selection
ctrl-toggle item selection
alt-add to selection
(Or any other custom action)
----------------------------
Stretch mode
(Media item edge-left drag)
Default-move edge
Shift-move edge ignoring snap
Ctrl-move edge ignoring selection
alt-stretch
alt+shift-strech ingoring snap
Again using the same modifiers for asjust start/end for the same context
Adjust start/end mode
(Media item edge-left drag)
Default- move edge
Shift-move edge ignoring snap
ctrl-move edge ignoring selection
alt-adjust start/end
alt+shift-adjust start/end ignoring snap
