you can give it a try. create a backup and try to update and see if you like it.
sierra is pretty stable now, high sierra is not as, but almost ready.
high sierra tends to be somewhat quicker to respond in daily GUI stuff on older machines though (I have a 2012 Air and can confirm this – menus appear faster, text is scrolling more smoothly and somehow the UI rendering seems faster).

Just make sure you have a clone of your current system up to date so rolling back is a simple 5 minute trip!

I haven't shaken down 10.13 completely but at first glance it's a bug fixed version of 10.12 and I see no glaring issues with anything audio.

Take a look at the install notes I posted for 10.13 a bit ago too. Downloading 10.13 and running the app updater version often just works. But if it doesn't you'll be real glad you were prepared!

drive swaps on a mac is a bit more than 5 minutes, depending on the machine.

I've done a time machine OS revert over USB2 before and it took a few hours, but was painless otherwise.

If you hace a Carbon Copy Cloner (or other favorite cloning software) made clone, the only files that would change on your system drive are the OS and maybe a couple apps. 15 - 20GB. Only files that are changed would be copied back (ie. the old OS files.)

But OK, maybe 20 minutes.

Time Machine is the long convoluted way FYI. Simple autopilot so you don't lose anything and that part is cool. You can't exactly shuffle around multiple systems and clone them back and forth with ease though.

p.s. latest 10.13.4 was a bad update, personally I had apps that were OK in 10.13.3, but on 13.3.4 don't work. people also say, they've broken some other things with it.

reverted my main computer to 10.12.6, 10.13 does not seem to be ready yet.

You've not said what you're considering upgrading to? What OS does your hardware support?

Echo most of the replies here already, Sierra is stable, High Sierra seems snappier - but 'may' be prone to a few bugs.

For me personally, El Cap, Sierra and High Sierra have all been really good on the 3 machines i use for audio (Mac Mini i5/MacBook Pro i5/Mac Pro Xeon 12 Core)

Apple seems pretty aware of something horribly wrong with the .4 revision. There's surely going to be a .5 soon. I'd wait unless that anxious feeling while restoring from your backup clone is your thing.
