Fired up my orchestral template this weekend to start some compositions, and with Vienna Ensemble Pro, I've started noticing a significant 3+ second delay/hanging when starting playback again. This was formally
reported in a bug report from 2015, but was labelled as fixed as of version
5.1 (Nov. 15, 2015).
For software, I'm running VE PRO 5, and REAPER v5.965 on macOS Sierra (10.12.6), all 64-bit.
So, I'm not sure if I've just misconfigured REAPER since then or if this is a regression from the earlier fix.
Upon pressing Play, the cursor changes to a "busy" state (beach ball of death) for a few seconds, and then returns to the white selection cursor as playback begins. The more instances that there are at once (including the use of the Event Input plugin), the longer the delay is. I've documented everything that I have tried thus far...
- Tried a fresh portable install of REAPER with the existing project
- Tried a blank project and loaded instances manually
- Tried changing REAPER's buffer size as well as VE PRO's engine buffer
In
all of the above cases... I have tried tweaking the following settings
on and off, but all have no effect on the START of playback:
SETTINGS:
Playback > "Flush FX on stop"
Playback > "Run FX on stop"
VST > "Don't flush synthesizer plugins on stop/reset"
Does anyone have any pointers on if this is fixed, and if so, how I can fix it?
I'm still collecting data for a formal bug report, but wanted to check in here and make sure I was not missing anything simple.
Thanks all!
