Default Continuous signal in Midi recording (no note-off?)

Hey there, first experiment connecting my keyboard to Reaper via a super cheap midi-usb interface. I just activated the interface in Reaper on midi in and out, and it works but when i midi record i get this chaotic continuous signal even if i stop playing the notes.
The note values are correct as played both when playing back via a VST and when printing to audio through it, but in the midi piano roll they're actually recorded as the attached pic shows so editing would be impossible.

I don't know much about midi, so did i do something wrong in setting Reaper up? Or is it the cheap interface's fault? I don't have an alternative except for buying actual midi cables and routing the keyboard through my Line6 Pod HD as an interface, that would probably be more reliable, but i'm more interested in the cause to the technical difficulties by now.
Thanks to anyone willing to help.

That indeed looks strange (I know this doesn't help), my first thought would also be your keyboard doesn't always send note offs.

What you could do as a first step for trouble shooting, load ReaControlMIDI (included with Reaper) on a record armed track, press the "Show Log" button, press your keyboard keys and check what your keyboard is actually sending (if it indeed misses note offs).

I and many others have been through the cheap MIDI cable-interface route.
Dump it.
They never work reliably.
You already have an audio MIDI interface that also has decent-ish ASIO driver available.
Break down and buy a MIDI cable! Probably cheaper than the POS "interface" you already bought.

And of course the technical explanation is dead simple.

A $1.99 piece of electric string built in a shed in Taiwan is no way to treat your music!

There are no note-ons in this log, so I suspect everything wasn't recorded.
