Default Spectral peaks

Hi,

Today I made some field recordings, comparing two different microphones, a pair of DPA 4060 and some cheaper lavalier mics (EM172 from micbooster.com)
Why do the spectral peaks of the two recordings look so different? Is it because of the non-tonal material that has been recorded?
Maybe someone can explain it a little how the coloring works and where it is useful?

thanks

Spectral Peaks view is roughly showing the primary frequency content at that point, which isn't really what you care about in your microphone comparison. Switch over to Spectrogram or Spectrogram + Peaks view and everything should much more apparent.

If you keep the Peaks Display Settings window open, it includes a frequency/ color chart.

For anyone who hasn't found it yet, all this lives under the menu Options/ Peaks display mode.
