Default FX on the return

I heard somebody talking about mixing on youtube and he was talking about adding FX on the return signal. what exactly did he mean by this? and how can i do that with reaper?

maybe it's just simple and he means just on the sound. I'm pretty sure he mentions it on this kanye west video. he has other ones too, they're cool to checkout anyways, to hear a real pro talk about work he's done for big hits.

it's actually kind of weird to hear such songs played through someone's DAW.

maybe it was the john mayer one where he was talking about it. or the umbrella one.

He mentions in the Rihanna video about putting a doubler on the return of his delay and reverb.

This just means he had vocal->delay->reverb->doubler
rather than what you'd probably normally do like vocal->doubler->delay->reverb

by 'return' he means the output of his previous effects (which if they were hardware would be plugged into a 'send' and 'return')
