Default Instrument Plugins

Hope I don't get bitched at for this noob question, but here goes.

I bought a midi keyboard today, works fine with reaper, so now I'm looking for some instrument plugins.

I'm a little wary of downloading some of these free plugins, was hoping to get some suggestions on reliable sources. Don't need much, drums, keyboards, etc. and don't mind paying for them.

By the way, I tried getting that free Piano One download but the download from SoundMagic isn't working, just sits at the page saying the download will start in 30 seconds.

Keyzone Classic is my favorite free MIDI piano. MT Power Drum Kit 2 is a nice free drum set (have to enable every time you launch Reaper unless you want to buy, in which case, I'd grab EZDrummer2, allowing you to tap a couple measures of your drum beat out and match sequences or Superior Drummer 3 if you really know how to program drums).

Check into the Kontakt library (lots of youtube vids) for some amazing MIDI sounds. It's pricey but the sample library is amazing. I have several of their acoustic guitars and I can put together any acoustic rendering w/ the MIDI keyboard.

Ample Sound makes my favorite bass. Visit their download page and there's a great sounding free acoustic guitar and bass.

Actually got Keyzone classic piano and MT Power Drum (gonna toss them some bucks on paypal).

I'll check out those other two you mentioned. Thanks.

Just FYI, I bought the Novation LaunchKey 61 MIDI Keyboard. Not top of the line, but OK for me in my man cave. Zero issues with this thing so far, works great.

I think the Komplete Select bundle is great for the money. You get some drums, a Rickenbacker Bass, a nicely sampled upright piano, a collection of vintage organs (B3, Vox, Farfisa), some African percussion, a bunch of synths, and a couple mixing plugins (delay, comp, phaser)...$200. Might sound expensive but I think it’s a rather good value.

Listen to the demos. It can probably cover just about everything you’d need.

I had a lot of problems setting up Piano-One as well. The download is an .RAR archive file, and every attempt to extract it (using several RAR programs, downloading it several times) resulted in a 'source file corrupted' message. I sent a message to their support email requesting a ZIP version but they never replied. I finally found a copy somewhere on a mirror server that works.

I signed up for a three month subscription, looked like a pretty good resource. Do you know if it's possible to get access to the plugins in past issues, or do you have to buy those past issues?

Hi. One purchase of a single issue gets you access to the "vault" which houses all their previous offerings going back several years at this point. Probably have one of everything you might want in the way of "basic" VSTs (and some not so basic too!)

BTW forgot to mention you might like to try this as a piano VST. Heavier load on resources than Piano One but pretty good to my ears...

Its worth it to get their notifications via APP or email too. They throw in some full commercial plugs in some issues that are available for limited time.

For example I got the T RACKS LA2A processor in last months (i think) issue.

Well I got my first issue, downloaded the app on my iPad, still can't find where to download the plugins. Everything seems to want to take me back to the favoritemagazine site where I placed my subscription.

I'll keep looking.

This explains the procedure:

Are you already using this?

I tried to earlier, that link takes me to FileSilo, I registered, and tried to add Computer Music but it said Computer Music was unavailable, so I deleted the account. I went back there when I got your reply and tried to register again, but now it won't let me past that "I'm not a robot" deal, just keeps putting up more pictures every time I click on the pics and hit verify.

No worries, I found enough plugins for now. Thanks for your help.

Nope. You get the " CM plug-ins" as at the issue (as in my list above) you have unlocked and any specials / sample libraries etc available with that issue. You do not get the specials / sample libraries etc unique to the other issues.

ello-well if you don't mind paying a little for a lot-try vps avenger.
for around 175squids-yours getting a heap of functions+special fx..
it pretty much is a 1 stop shop> if generating/modulating and reshaping midi+audi0 is your thing.
8osc,8arps,8amps blahblahblahhh- for the price,it's a no brainer really.
library is nice straight out the box as well-thousands of patches waiting to be used any day of the week-very playable patches,fx are ok as well!

for a free web browsing plug-ph's europa is also alright..only synthesized drums though there..
avenger is also pretty decent resampler--it will not record though.
reliable+trusted sources for some...+should keep 1 buzy for many years =)

The plugins from this magazine are awesome, I've been playing with one of the synthesizers for the last couple of days.

Thanks so much for the tip, already looking forward to next month's issue.

Would I get access to all plugs up until the issue I buy or just for the issue I buy?

Pretty sure it's just issues you purchase.

To get the plug ins, you have to sign up with FileSilo. To get access to the plugins, you select the edition you're looking for then you get asked a question about something on a certain page in that magazine. If you can't answer the question, you don't get the files.

At least that was my experience, someone else nay know of another way.

Some big plugins are issue exclusive but most are not. You will get a ton of plugins buying the latest issue. If you need something specific to an issue you can buy an extra issue if you think it's worth it, or buy a rather recent issue that has something you want with it, but you wont get the free stuff that came after that issue.

I had a lot of trouble getting this up and running (that is probably me being me though) but Native Instruments has a free sample pack with instruments that sound really good.

If you visit the post "kick drum and snare
Burnsjethro", you will see my question starts off asking about drums but do a search in the post for Native Instruments and Solger will put you on the right track.
