Default Any Virtual Instruments in Reaper?

Ok. I had mixcraft for the past two years, and it came with a bunch of vst instruments. Does reaper have the same thing with it? I can't see anywhere on it that I can midi in some strings, or piano. Thanks

Just Reasynth. Part of why Reaper is such a small download is it does not have a bunch of limited edition instruments packaged. If there is certain types of instruments you are looking for, post them and the folks here will probably be able to lead you to the best freeware versions available. There are a lot of very high quality free instuments and effects available.
You can also check www.kvraudio.com

for piano try searching Tascam CV Piano.. I like that one, but there may be other better ones.

I don't have any good realistic strings freebies. Serenity has some really cool etheral sounding string patches:

There is probably some others worth checking on this site also

good luck

Strings are not easy to fake. This is a reasonably good cello:

This is a powerful synth with some interesting synth-string patches:

MDA piano is not exactly good, but it's quite versatile:

There's also the ReaControl plug-in that allows for a wide variety of instrument sounds and effects. I've used a number of the batch programs that sound fairly decent. If you do that, use the CC lanes to put the effects in when you go to save it.

And of course, there's the midi keyboard built into Reaper that triggers the sounds for the ReaControl (see View>MIDI Keyboard to access it).

Reasynth got a good review in Sound On Sound magazine- the article also mentions a Reaper sampler review as well:

If you mean ReaControlMIDI, it is no instrument at all, just a plugin that spits out MIDI messages to control other plugins or instruments. There are no sounds in ReaControlMIDI itself.
