Default Midi absolutely misconfigured

Hello.

When I record midi with Reaper, some times all the midi is ruined.

In the following Folder you can see the problem:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...GO?usp=sharing

In file

1-recorded-with-my-celphone-audio-original.mp3

is the record from my cellphone (the audio original of my keyboard).

And the following is the midi recorded in Reaper:

2-reproducing-the-midi.mp3

Of course, the recorded midi is useless.

When I record the midi using

arecordmidi -p 20:0 test.mid

all is ok, and that's why I think that is a problem of Reaper. I'm not sure if is a bug or something in the configuration.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04. Also I tested Reaper with Ubuntu Studio 20.04 (USB, without installing in my pc) and appears the same problem.

I'm not using Jack, but because arecordmidi record correctly, I think that Jack is not necessary.

Someone can suggest me a way to fix this? It is a bug? I'm using the last version of Reaper.

It's not a bug - if it were then many here would be screaming about it!

This sounds as though it's been quantised in a way you didn't intend. Do you have input quantise enabled by any chance?

I really don't know what happens, because if I record using

arecordmidi -p 20:0 test.mid

records perfect (so, it is not a problem of the keyboard configuration nor pc).

If I try to use Ubuntu Studio (from USB, not installing, so I'm sure that I'm starting with the default configuration of Reaper) happens exactly the same problem. So, I think that it is a problem with my configuration of Reaper (or a bug), but I move a lot of options and still the same problem.

I attach the quantized configuration, and it says that is not quantizing.

I really spend a lot of hours trying to resolve this, if anyone has some idea I can apply it. With ideas where revise could be a big help for me.

This is my first time using Reaper to record midi. Until now, I always recorded the sound directly from my keyboard. So, maybe it is something easy to resolve for someone with more experience, but I really don't know what to do.

In that case I suggest you make a portable installation of Reaper with all the default settings (in your normal Ubuntu install) and see what results you get with that.

Thanks Xasman, but I do not understand your answer, my problem is that does not work properly. If the problem is only configuration, then the problem would be solved, what difference be with the portable version?

So I suggested making a portable install of REAPER with the default configuration in order to help rule out anything you may have tweaked in your own REAPER configuration files. I've no idea if it will fix your problem but for sure there's no harm in trying.

The point is that it sounds like you need to embark on a process of elimination, and this seems like a reasonable step in that process.

FWIW, I have REAPER installed here on Ubuntu 20.04 and I don't have any problem with recording MIDI.

I assume you have selected ALSA in REAPER as the Audio System.

REAPER has accurate midi recording, as this example recorded straight from the 5-pin midi output of a set of V-Drums right into REAPER with an instance of Superior Drummer shows.

So as Xasman has said, you must have some setting in REAPER messed up and trying a portable install would be a good test.

I agree with Glennbo and Xasman.

It sounds to me like the input is being quantized. In the mixer window, for the track you are recording into, next to the record arm button is a "in" button where you select your input (audi, MIDI or whatever). Right above that is another button, "inFX". Click the inFX button. Two windows open. Make sure there is nothing in the FX: window (the second window, "Add to FX..." is not the window I'm referring to).

Also, is the metronome that I hear in the background coming from Reaper?
