Default OSX: Reaper changes sample rate to 8 kHz

I am on OSX Catalina. Recently, I discovered a strange behavior with my Bluetooth headphones:
as soon as I start the playback of a project, REAPER keeps changing the sample rate to 8 khz (instead of 48 kHz). This renders a very bad audio quality that makes mixing virtually impossible. Does anyone experience the same and/or give me a clue?
Thank you!

Hi! I have the same problem with bluetooth speakers. The fix is to set the speaker as the output for your mac in System Preferences and set REAPER's output to be <Default system devices>

Thank you very much! I will try this as well.
But I think I just found another "issue" in my case: it's the headphone's microphone. Once I set the input to internal (or any other input), everything is back to normal. Very strange.
