Split by markers

It would be great if it was possible to split up a large stereo file into songs and export them to another destination as Wav's mp3s or whatever. In SoundStudio after creating markers you can choose "split by markers" then go off n put the kettle on while it does em all.
In Reaper i''ve split them then had to drag each song to a different track to do this.
When splitting large files at gig [like say a live recording , i'm a live sound engineer] into as many as say 20 files this is a fiddly affair and time consuming, especially at the end of the gig when trying to make a copy for the band.
