Record midi from Midi editor

I read in another forum post i need to do something with " to Misc: Pass through key to main window"

i did not understand fully how that works

i need to record midi from the midi editor window.

this action determines whether or not the key presses you make while in the MIDI editor affect the MIDI editor or the main page.
For example, if you press shift + 0 in the MIDI editor, this is the shortcut for "show only channel 10", but it is for "pitch up one semitone" in the main window.
Running the pass key action, or assigning it to a toolbar or whatever, enables you to pitch your item up a semitone while in the MIDI editor, with the same shortcut, without having to come out of the MIDI editor, for example.
