Default Triggering custom actions via MIDI note

Hi all.
I wish to trigger custom actions via MIDI keyboard.
When I try to do it as a shortcut, the MIDI CC dropdown menu is greyed out and the "soft takeover (absolute mode only)" check box unselectable (in case it matters).
Running 5.974/64 under OS 10.11.6
Any hint?
Thank you

Once you assign a midi event to it, the grayed out part goes away.

Sorry, it doesn't work for me.
MIDI keyboard controller hooked up, I'm able to play notes, not to fire actions… into action.

Make sure "Enable input for control messages" is enabled for your MIDI keyboard in Preferences > Audio > MIDI Devices.

And what about using two midi controllers at once (eg. kbd1 for playing, kbd2 for triggering actions)?
