templates
My daughter's husband did two great mixes of two tunes of mine.
Can I delete the tracks and then save both projects as "templates" with different names so I can open them to use as, well, templates in the future?
Is this a seamless process?

Sure, why not. Save project with no audio. Load empty project and record new audio or drop in tracks to the correct place. Tweak as necessary.
Is that a seamless process?...I guess so!

Another thought.
I open his superdoopa templates. How can I get my less than superdoopa projects into the template. Do I have to export my tracks individuals and then reimport them?

Easiest option is probably to open both projects in their own tab and copy paste all events from one to the other.
Then if you want to make sure this project is all together in a self contained folder save as and tick the copy all media box.
Or you can export stems from your existing project and import to the template...but that freezes any editing you may have done while the cut and paste leaves all audio as originally recorded.
Or rather than use a project template you could save either track templates or FX chains for each track and load into your existing project...might be a bit more complex/more room for error if there is any sub grouping or send fx in the template.

Thanks Stella but I did not know you could open two projects at the same time!
Is that possible? It was in Audacity

There's an Open in New Project tab option checkbox available at the bottom of the File > Open Project window.
In addition, you can also check out ReaLauncher (see link in my signature)

With this option checked, each project will be opened in a separate window tab. You then can switch back and forth between those project tabs, copy things between them, etc...

I just tried it. Opened a new file then did as you said to "Open in New Project tab" and then opened another project but I could not see the new file!
And when I shut the older project Reaper just closed!

1. Open a project any way you like
2. File menu/open project - tick open in new tab
3. Select projects with tabs below the menu bar and above the toolbar.

Thanks everybody but that did not work.
However, I right-clicked and it told me to open as a new instance, or something like that and that seems to do the trick.
Thanks for your patience.

Maybe you're just not looking for the tabs in the right place??
But a new instance of Reaper rather than multiple projects in one instance will work just the same for this use.

Stella, that is marvellous. Now I see what you mean by "below the menu bar and above the toolbar". Thank you so very much for taking the time to create that crystal-clear diagram.
