Need some modern high-gain guitar tones
Hello!
I have succesffuly switched to Arch Linux. Since Reaper is supporting .lv2 plugins now, everything is really perfect. Well, almost... Since I am a metal guy, I need some modern high-gain guitar tones. I have checked out guitarix so far. It is in the official Arch Linux repos, so the installation was easy. And it also works in Reaper without any problems. But, to be honest, I am not really impressed with the sounds I get from those plugins. So, my question: Are there any other native Linux amp-sims out there which are useful for modern high-gain guitar sounds? |

There is ScorchCrafter.
It's just an amp with no effects or cabinet, so they need to be added, and different cabinet IR's can make a big difference. I've tried it with Mesa and Marshall cabinets. ymmv and all of that. It's also a bit cpu hungry, so it's not really for Core Duos. Reaper needs the vst version scorch.zip, the lv2 version doesn't seem to load in Reaper but it's ok with Ardour the last time I checked. https://github.com/osxmidi/ScorchCrafter/releases Last edited by osxmidi; 03-05-2021 at 03:45 AM. |

There's also RakaRakk plugins, which work fine on my Linux and might get you there. I've found the transition from miked cabinets and amps to plugins very difficult. The guitar sound is all for inspiration.Bad sound = no inspiration.

But how does it sound and perform? Any experiences with it? EDIT: I have noticed that the download is a .deb file. Can I use that in Arch Linux? |

I used it primarily for tone shaping after the fact, and it worked so well that I made a track template for my SG with ToneLib and ReaComp, even though that track is setup for a mic on a real amp. Last edited by Glennbo; 03-10-2021 at 11:27 PM. |

@ XoechZ: There are LV2 versions of Zyn Distortion, and Zyn Chorus, which can be combined with various GX or rkr etc effects. You'll be plowing new ground,
but should be able to come up with excellent sounds. BlueCat Audio have FreeAmp, providing clean, crunch and overdrive amps with some useful presets for each, that should work in wine, or when wrapped by LinVst. They also have a free effects collection well worth having. I think their commercial offerings are better than their competitors, which are all pretty good these days. https://www.bluecataudio.com/Product..._FreewarePack/ Cheers |

In 6.25 lv2, the tone sliders direction in GxBoss Ds1 and GxMetalHead
seem to be reversed. Sound is OK, no idea if it's a bug, or a feature, or faithful to the pedal/amp in some way? Added rkr OpticalTrem and Flange/Chorus for a nice chain. adding rkr Vibe invoked the Mute adding rkr Reverbtron crashed Reaper Cheers Last edited by 4duhwinnn; 03-20-2021 at 03:55 PM. ToneLib had really great sounds, but behaved really strange on Reaper 6.19, 6.21. When used in a project, it moved the items around! Very confusing indeed. Or it caused Reaper to misbehave.
But I might try it again now when 6.24 is working so fine. (For Arch; you can open the *.deb file in an Archive-manager and manually extract the relevant files and manually put them where they should be. Works for most plugins. Some have extra files though. Or maybe Arch got a deb-converter?)
