Users from Europe may have problem connecting with mIRC client since It wants to connect to the old IP address. I contacted Mark (mixxnet administrator) and helped me edit my servers.ini in order to be able to connect with mIRC client. If any of you meets such a problem drop me a message I can help you solve it.

I just logged in, no problem.
Sorry, but I am afraid I can't help other than saying that it works here as I just set it up to work once. Hopefully some IRC guru on this forum can help you out.

GREAT IDEA! :0) i recently converted my muzo friend to Reaper who is not as computer savvy as me... this is great for him an would help lots of newbie Reaper users.... i can see the time difference between countries being an issue.. maybe "live tech support" for dif countries would be ideal??? But.. do you know what... i think you guys already do more than what we expect... great work guys !!! :0)

Need help/advice choosing a computer that will fit my needs.. please.
hello... my laptop was recently stolen so I really need help picking out a new one. First I want a computer that will work well as a DAW. Second.... I want a computer that can create/edit digital video. Third... I need a computer that will work well with an HDTV that I plan to buy along with my new computer. Incidentally can anyone recomend a decent HDTV that is computer friendly?
I have 1000 bucks to spend on both units. If I buy refurbished units I think 1000 bucks should be enough... I hope.
I was looking at the dell 560 (multimedia) desktop that is going for a little over 200 bucks refurbished. would that computer suit my needs? Am I even barking up the right tree by considering the dell 560 ?
T hanks for taking the time to read this and any advice would be very appreciated.
Peace.

newbie... some help greatly appreciated!
I'm having issues getting REAPER to open up the sample files... after a lot of chasing around I finally found a version of LAME that should work (one recommended in REAPER user guide didn't help...?? I've installed LAMEfor Windows x 64: LAME_enc64.dll (from aegiscorp.free.fr/lame/ ) and download the sample files 1 & 2 recommended from the REAPER USER GUIDE and they were taking forever to install! SO I tried a sample from REAPER sampleshttp://www.cockos.com/reaper/samples.php ... I've done it about 10 times now (and deleted previous ones..)
1) Can't get the sample files to load...
Decided I'd just try making something myself... but...
2) Watching the tutorial on getting started... it doesn't go to the Save Project screen as mentioned in Getting Started Video at 11:32... (but keeps wanting to open up other files in my computer...)
Sigh... any help in plain English would be greatly appreciated

OKAY! Now I know what you are doing wrong.
First off, the actual reaper guide (official and available in printed form) is on the front page of this very website. http://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php
That Reaper wiki is sort of unofficial. How did you get there?
The samples contained in those folders are .mp3 files for individual tracks and .repeak files for the same instruments, which you can easily forget about for the time being.
If you unzip the two folders, you will now be able to access the instrument files by clicking in the TCP zone - you will automatically insert a new blank track, then going to Insert/Media item menu.
Then navigate to where you put the contents of the two sample zips and you will see the instrument .mp3 files. Click on one and it will load into reaper. Assuming you set your Raper installation and your sound card/audio interface up correctly it should now play in Reaper.
Try it and see how you get on.
If that works OK just carry on loading the individual .mp3 files into reaper on separate tracks.
Again, get the actual proper manual and work through that. A better place to start learning Reaper if you are not that keen on manuals is Kenny Gioia's free tutorials on kennymania.com - great stuff, as are his paid ones on groove3.com

Ivansc: thanks again for responding in answer to your question "how did you get there?".... lol... I downloaded the REAPER user guide directly from this website... and on page 3 of the official user guide it says this and click on the link it takes me to the wiki site for the sample files :/
"Sample Project Files
These are available for download from http://www.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/REAPER_User_Guide
Note that the links are case sensitive. The media files are in .MP3 format. Some of the examples outlined in this
book require recording further tracks in MP3 format. In order to be able to do this, you will need to have an
MP3 encoder installed in your REAPER program directory. The encoder file can be downloaded from a number of
locations, including http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm
Be sure to select the correct file for your system. For example, for 32 bit Windows this will be lame_enc.dll....." Pg 3 REAPER user guide...
I've decided to scrap the samples and work on my own and working through the video tutorials on this site by Kenny Gioia...
thanks again

Dealing with Transients
I've been postponing the whole subject matter for over a year (had too much on my plate...).
But, now is the time to learn about plugins that deal with Transients.
AT the risk of sounding ignorant (which I am...), my understanding of a transient is anything that occurs at the very beginning of a sound. Yes?
Once a sound is in progress and we're past the first few milliseconds, there are no more transients. Right? Any other spikes in a signal, past the transient stage are simply peaks. Yes?
Technically speaking, are plugins that deal with transients simply compressors that have all the settings dialed up for us, so that all we need to do is turn one nob? Or two nobs * sometimes I see a sustain. Maybe also a slider, that has time in milliseconds.
Please expose the flaw in my noobie logic. Ok?
I don't really like 'black boxes' so would it better to for me to use a compressor to deal with transients, rather than use a plugin? Tell why this is a good or bad idea.
I like ReaComp, because I feel it can do EVERYTHING in a transparent way.
The goal and signal: An acoustic guitar being strummed with a pick, that will be playing a supporting role in the background. Other instruments will take care of the punch and defining the time signature, the acoustic guitar is more like a ringing string/harmonic filler. A bit of definition on the important beat measures is required, but I would like to tame the sound of the pick hitting the strings.
This is a transient issues, right?
Besides for transients, I was thinking of adding a bit of chorus to 'blur' things up, with some reverb to 'lengthen and blend' the strumming.
What if I set two instances of ReaComp like this:
Rea-Comp #1:
Pre-Comp : 10 ms - to make sure the compressor treats the very first milliseconds of the signal. This is a look-a-head, yes?
Attack: 0.1 ms - very fast attack, but not true 0 ms, because I read somewhere that setting to zero (0) causes some unexplained issues...
Release: 100 ms - the song BPM is 72 with a distinct strum on most beats 1,2,3,4 and some little bits in between. For me, the release is more like a listening feel, rather than calculating mathematically how many millisecond are in a BPM.
Ratio: 2 My playing is not all over the play, and I already lowered the exaggerated loud peaks in the Pre-Volume envelop. Is a ration of 2 enough?
Knee size: Hard - 0 db. Not sure what knee really does? I like to believe it tells the compressor to be like a stallion rather than a donkey.
RMS size = 0 ms Assuming here that I don't need to use any averaging from the rest of the song ahead.
I would place the threshold for a max reduction of -3 to -6 db
****
ReaComp #2:
Just use the preset for mastering.
Or should I just use a Transient plugin?
Never used one before, but downloaded Stillwell TRANSIENT MONSTER. Sustain would be like my Pre-Comp #2?
Any advice?
This would be to deal with the peaks coming in after the transients, so the
over all

Yes I am a Newbie
Hello All, I can record but it sounds like I am in another room far way when I play the recording back. I checked all of my volume and headset settings and they are fine. I have used other software and had no issues, so I am thinking its in the settings. I installed ASIO4ALL, running Windows 10 64bit 6gig of Ram. I checked my drivers as well. Stumped. Does anyone have the settings for Reaper to get this rolling? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi!
I need some advice... Whenever I try to record something on a second track I get both master and new recording mixed into a second track. Don't know how to solve it. I'm using Steinberg UR22 mkII. The other problem is that I only get the signal only through left earphone, don't know how to put it through both...
Sorry to bother you with such rookie stuff, but I had to...

Check the routing of the first track.
1- Are you sure its not sending signal to the second one?
2- In the red rec button of the second track if you right click are you sure your recording only the input and not the output ?

Channel 3 on the mixer seems to control all the track volumes!
So I get things set up nicely. I have axiom 61 as a controller and proteus 2000 for sounds and an uno usb midi interface. I laid down 4 seperate trax as a test and they all play back midi to the sound module. But when I tried to adjust the volumes from the reaper mixer....channels 1,2 and 4 did nothing.....and channel 3 controlled EVERYTHING VOLUME WISE. The mutes and solo buttons work fine. Any ideas?

Reaper on Windows Surface
Hi all,
I have installed the 64 bit version of Reaper on a Microsoft surface pro X, running windows 10 pro.
It's running the 64 bit OS and has an ARM processor.
the program says it can't run on this PC and to contact the software provider for an alternate version.
Anyone know if this is due to it being a type of tablet? Is there a version that anyone has succeeded in running on this type of machine?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
