Default Item volume control setting: hide vol knobs (text only)

I don't like using handles for volume control because when the volume is really low I can't see the fades clearly. However, the volume knob takes up too much space and then I can't see take names without zooming in. I use mouse modifiers to change the volume of items and don't need a physical control. It would be great to have an option to hide vol knobs.

You can use the option to show text above the item to get around this. prefs/appearance/media

This doesn't change the problem. The volume knob is positioned above the item too and still takes up space.
