Explode (or Mark) Selected Take

Just the selected one. I'm auditioning takes and I would find it very useful to be able to mark the ones that I like and/or explode just the selected take to a new track.

If we could do this, it would help my workflow a lot.

Can it already be done and I just can't find it?

If you have an item with a bunch of takes, and you select one of the takes, isn't it "marked" enough? Just lock the item so the "mark" is not accidentally changed.

Exploding the selected take to a new track would be a great feature...

As of marking, you can give your favorite takes a color to make them stand out (rightclick item -> "Item and take colors" -> "Set active take to custom color").

Sort of. What I am talking about is the process before you decide which take should be the final active one. If you have for example, 8 takes and you want to take a first pass through them to hear what you like, you need to get through all 8 to decide. If you like takes 2, 4 and 6, you mark them or explode them individually as you go through so you can revisit them on another pass. I see in another response that they can be coloured, so that will get me where I want, but maybe there is still merit in the ability to explode out the active take to a new track.

That's it! Shit, I didn't have that option because I was on 3.63. Thanks. I have to set the option to check for new versions of REAPER, eh?

maybe someday we'll have a similar SWS Color set for Takes...

SWS-like assignment of take colors would be nice.

As of now you can define the pool out of which "one random color" is chosen in a text file of the following syntax:

168 131 45
80 116 44
53 115 145
149 49 134
66 30 28
117 80 38

68 43 102

where the numbers are RGB values in decimals for one color each line. You can use the numbers displayed in windows color picker dialog.

Save it as "default.reapalette" (that's the full name - no other extension like txt or something) in Reaper's resource direcory.
I don't know how many colors (lines) you can define in that file - I just stopped at 10.

If you don't use the color-recording-pass-feature you could dumb that file down to one or two colors to comfortably give the active take a consistent good/bad marker color with the action "Color active take to one random color" without always visiting the color picker dialog. (and give the word "random" a completely new meaning )

it's working OK as is... and it goes to my defined random colors close enough for now... was just thinking it would be nice to see the preset colors for takes the same as SWS does for tracks and items...

im on hour 2 of looking for this solution, which take colors have nothing to do with. please dont do that, start a new topic and drop a link. 90% of this forums users are troubleshooting and its amazingly annoying when a thread goes off in another direction and i have to read thru your comments because MAYBE theres the solution im looking for in there, or after them. but there isnt..ever. to do this you either have to have ADD(my sympathies) or low self esteem(no sympathy), or just did a bunch of speed(sharing is caring).
