Default Reaper only takes 50 unique FX

How to replicate:

1.Install fresh reaper (portable).
2.Open Reaper.
3.Add a track.
4.Add 49-50 Different FXs.
5.Try to add more.
Reaper shows FX unavailable.

Same case on both laptop and desktop. Both on samsung SSD.

Project File Here (I'm using AirWindows vsts so it's definitely not caused by CPU hogs) https://stash.reaper.fm/v/31071/Reape...nique%20FX.rpp

Is it a setting issue or is it a bug?

It's Windows' issue, not Reaper's. Use plug-ins as dedicated processes to to avoid such a behaviour.

I just tested without airwindows plugins, and apparently I can add more than 50. However If I begin adding airwindows plugins, the other plugins gets affected as well.

So I guess make all airwindows plugins dedicated process?

Your project does no one any good unless they have those plugins. I've added maybe 100 JsFX in my test install without issue.

Which issue is that?

I was thinking since airwindows plugins are free and light-weight, they could be downloaded and placed in any reaper portable installation folder.

I doubt most will want (or in my case have time) to do all of that, but maybe someone will. 2nd, if at all possible it needs to not be third party plugins as not to dirty the waters. Of what I have in my test install, no repro but short on time today.

There is such a plugins quantity limitation on Windows, which affects all the DAWs, but not all plug-ins. Some plug-in vendors don't care about slot quantity, so one plug-in can take 2 or more slots.

JSFX don't suffer from the Windows issue because they work differently than VST plugins which depend on loading DLLs for each plugin type. (It's apparently an issue in Windows/Microsoft C/C++ runtime handling...)

I figured but that's all I have to test with where I am at the moment. Does anyone have an MS link to the issue so I can refresh myself? I ask because I'm vaguely familiar with a similar issue that can be tweaked at the system level.

Here's a description from Presonus about the problem :

http://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us...One-on-Windows

It's of course possible the original poster's problem does not have to do with this at all, but it does sound like it could be...

Cool thanks, that's not the limitation I was thinking of. Good to know.
