Default Edit undo behaviour (MIDI) in Reaper

I have a doubt about undo changes.

I have two midi projects which behave differently whenever I use Control-Z

In the first one if I use control-z it undo changes one by one, that's the way I like.
In the second one if I use control-z it undo several changes at the same time.

I guess I have enable unintentionally some option in the second project but I don't know which one it is and how to disable it. Any ideas?

Have a look at the Undo history in the second project, are there entries saying "multiple changes" ?

It's strange I haven't run into this problem. I've also got mine set a 256MB, but I didn't have "when approaching full undo memory, keep newest undo states" checked.

Just lucky I guess.

I think it also makes a difference if you have "Save undo history with projects" eanbled so it grows across project sessions.

edit:
I mean how fast you potentally hit the undo limit.

Thanks again nofish, I don't have that one checked. All I really care about is the last 10 to 15 minutes, and even then it's almost always within the last 1 to 2 minutes. It's pretty immediate, but there are times I'll go back a minute or two.

Beyond that, I'll be looking at a backup file.

Thanks a lot, I had already set the value to 256Mb, so according to those threads, I have to 2 options :

1) I would have to change it to 512 or 1Gb ... (and my project will kepp on growing ...)
2) or use keep newest undo states, which only keeps the last two changes (too limiting ...).

As I am in a midi orchestral project hundreds of changes will ocurr so with this very project I decided to set maximum undo memory to 0 at least I will control the size of it.

From now on, I would redo my orchestral template from scratch and remove all states before I save (every time I use the project), frankly this sucks.

Thanks again for the info.

Just as a heads up, R5.75 is just released and seems to have a change / improvement in this regard.

- Undo: avoid over-compaction of undo history
(http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=1936784)

I don't know what it does exactly though.
