Default Another Song...

OK, just finished remixing this one. I wanted to avoid the loudness war and tried a different technique as well. Another song from when I was in 'protest mode.'

Give me some feedback!

RIGHT click and choose "Save Target As..." or something like that.

320kbps MP3

16-bit WAV

24-bit WAV

REMIX IS HERE!

Right off the bat, vocals could be louder. Also sounds slightly heavy in the upper mids all around, otherwise a nice mix, esp as far as separation.

By heavy I'm assuming you mean too much? Hmmm... I'll give it another listen.

Thanks, Sammy!

Yes, but actually I used too strong of a word--it's not THAT prominent, but noticeable. Just some mild taming should do.

I actually dropped it down about 1.5db and it does sound a bit better. Thanks! I also brought the vocal up a smidge. I'll post the remixes tomorrow.

Great song. I'm listened through in ears from my phone, so I don't have much lows.
I felt that the break could be made 'heavier', but maybe it's my phone.
Great work anyway.
Greetings from Thailand anyway

Pleasant song, very traditional but then with a surprise ending.

It seems to me you recorded the acoustic direct using the built in pickups? I would at least layer it with a condenser mic'ed guitar. It would give you a nicer balance, because you'd have some higher freq transients to balance things out.

Hey, msundh! Thanks for the listen and the comments. Not sure what you mean by 'heavier?'

Thanks for the listen and comments, Bearcub! No, acoustic was mic'd. I'd never run an acoustic pickup direct and the acoustic I used doesn't have electronics. I did bring in some electric guitar with a lot of "shine" to it, which may be what you are hearing.

Appreciate the comments and the listen, g4greg! I'll post a new mix later today with a few things tweaked.

.
Well, it's more about what it's lacking, there is no real high end transient material that is usually present when you track an acoustic like that so it's a mystery to me why it sounds like a direct mic recording. Not that it's super important, it's the song that counts of course, but I am curious what mic and preamp you used for that acoustic?

Also if it's still a work in progress, the chord at 1:31 sounds to me like you got one guitar playing a minor chord and one playing a major at the same time?

Could be the post processing. Not really sure, it's been so long ago that I recorded it. I'll check it out. I do know that the mic was an MXL v57m and the pre was an ART, forget the model but it was an inexpensive one (read - cheap).

Ah, gotcha... um... thicker in what way?

Sorry I didn't get the remix up like I planned. It just got busy out. I'm shooting for later today (Sunday).

Basically I think it's all there. Sounds like too much verb, and has a muddy sound but I think the basic Freqs are all there.

Sorry Jeff, but I think it has more to do with an unfinished mix than anything else. Do you have any drums, I can't hear them?
