Default Ftp support

It would be really cool if you could use PathSync to sync with an Ftp directory .
The feature would surely come handy.

I was actually thinking about asking for this, but it seems like it'd be an entirely new program. This would be extremely useful, though.

It would really eliminate any need of using an Ftp program.
I think you can browse Network Places in windows, without need to implement the protocol itself.
So I think windows would be handling the Ftp connection.
I would love to see PathSync in Linux also

Yes, I'd love to see FTP support. Would mean I could use PathSync much much more!

Why don't you guys just use a program like Novell NetDrive (last free version is available here: http://d321.k12.id.us/Support/Docs/NOVELL/NetDrive4.1/) to map an FTP account to a drive letter and then use PathSync to sync between these?

Didn't know such tool existed.
I will try it.
Although it would be cool to see native support in pathsync

Well, instead of asking for FTP support in your favorite sync tool, text editor etc., I think this is the better and more generic approach. That's why built-in FTP support in text editors (like UltraEdit) never has been a plus for me ;-)

But we are speaking of a sync tool, you may want to sync to an external repository.
I downloaded the tool you told me to, but i don't like the idea of having a service running and having it mapped as a drive.
Ok, it works, but i really don't need to access my ftp that way, i would really prefer to ftp to it. The problem with ftp is sometimes
connection breaks, or something, you just forgot to set TYPE I and all the files get screwed. .
This might even enable me to sync to ftp sources, and yes I know FXP exists but not everyone supports it .
I think it might be a nice add-on, and if you don't want a bloated app, it can always be a plugin, doesn't have to be built in.
Think of winamp .

Also this is feature request forum, it's up to Justin to decide what he does or not.
For the moment being although PathSync is OS i don't have any time to try to learn the code .
I like it, really nice and tiny app.

My feeling on FTP (or SFTP, or SCP, etc) support is that it would be a great feature-- but I don't want to have to code it right now.

So feel free to send me patches! haha

Justin,

PathSync reminds of the capability built in into some web publishing tools to publish/backup content.

I guess I'm thinking that it would be a great and easy plugin/ add on to Reaper itself. Part of your project's preference would be your backup directory and perhaps backup policy settings.

The only thing is that I like doing it upon OS shutdown. BTW, what happens if you leave Reaper up and then try to shutdown Windows ? Does Reaper know its being shutdown i.e. are you registered to receive a shutdown event ? If so part of the policies settings for backup could be to sync upon application shutdown.

Food for thought.
