Panning armed track(s) when recording
Hello folks ... wondering if someone might be able to shine a light on what I'm missing here; perhaps a big ol' flood light! I am not a complete novice with Reaper in general in terms of mixing, but please note that I mainly use a dedicated multi-track recorder (Zoom R16) for recording and then mix in Reaper. There are lots of reasons for this ... primary reason being the time wasted over the years in just trying to get some tracking done and losing so much time to issues with latency (latency has always been the bane of my existence) and monitoring (such as this issue), etc. I am trying to record using a Zoom G5n as my interface (USB) and am unable to pan the armed/input track as needed. If I sweep the pan, it seems to just stay center, although it sorta sounds like there is a minor audio shift when sweeping, but the sound still stays center. I want to pan the track I am recording all the way to the right. The pan mode for all tracks, including the track I am recording on, is set to default (stereo balance). The master is also in default. I am choosing the input as Zoom G5 Asio ... and am choosing the input to be mono left or right (tried both). The output is also set to Zoom G5 Asio, and I am monitoring from the Zoom G5, for what it's worth. The other tracks in the mix pan without issue, it is only the track I am recording on that I cannot pan. One strange thing is that is I choose an empty patch on the G5n which basically just gives me a dry input signal, and then load up a VST such as Amplitube on the same track, I can pan it left or right as needed. I am unsure why I am unable to do this when I am in a patch directly on the Zoom G5n. There is no odd stereo routing in the patch itself, and I am connected via USB. If anyone has any idea of what might be going on, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts/suggestions.
Thank good people of Cockos land.

Check your sound settings, I have similar incident with the pan controls and it always ends up being that the selected sound device has changed for some reason. The changing for unknown reason has been present ever since I made the foolish decision to switch to win 10.

This is all in the Zoom. You said it yourself. There's a setting or option in whatever patch you're trying to use causing this. I'd imagine it's some sort of direct monitoring "feature" so that some of what you're hearing is from the Zoom itself and not even going through Reaper.
I think RTFM or google about the different record modes and settings for the box or maybe check the manufacturer's support forum. Or I guess hang out and see if anybody around here has used that particular unit.

I think you are correct now that I think about it. I believe I need to change the USB audio settings on the Zoom to 100% DAW ... I believe the default is 50/50, which would explain why it sorta sounds like it sweeps, but stays in the middle. Thanks for tipping me off to this!! I will check it tonight.
