The bug that was reported in +dev1130 could occur during a regular render as well as a 2nd pass render. Both should be fixed in the +dev1201 build.

Actually I am curiouse too, but it's too vague question. I wonder if we can set/get the metadata to a file using only API?

You can basically get all metadata stored in a file. From what I can see, the metadata supported is the metadata that you can set via Render to File-dialog.
Including chapters.
Only getting is supported yet.
