Renaming, Saving, FINDING Files to reaImport

Hi all, probably a noob question so posting here.

I basically have several session files and want to important a vocal from a past (older) session and have not found an easy "intuitive" way to do this.

I've went to the extent of renaming the file in the media file preferences but when I search the project file in windows, I get nothing. Even when I try and filter last modified by date, nothing shows up for this or by the new name I gave the file. What am I missing here?
