>> v4: Flexible interface engine (WALTER)
WALTER is a flexible user interface engine for REAPER's track and mixer panels, their masters, the envelope panels and the transport bar. WALTER allows extensive workflow enhancements by offering alternate layouts (globally, or per-track) and theme-based deep customization of many of REAPER's UI elements including their appearance, position, size, colour and how they make the best use of space as panels are resized.
Theme creators and users can use WALTER to radically alter these parts of REAPER's UI. Pre-V4 themes will continue to appear and work as expected, and new themes need not use WALTER. More information is available on the WALTER reference page.
The new prerelease V4 default theme includes a selection of alternate layouts to demonstrate the possibilities. These will be refined and added to during the prerelease period in response to user feedback. A range of stock layouts are also included that will work with most pre-V4 REAPER themes. To change layouts, you can use the menu available via Options->Layouts, or use the screensets window, which has a new tab called Layouts, or change layouts for one or more selected tracks via Track ->Set track layout or by right-clicking on a track panel and choosing Set track layout.

Awesome!
Two questions on this schwa...
1) Are the ReaPlugs skinnable with this update, or is this something that is planned/coming?
2) Assuming you are familiar with "Brice's theme", would someone talented enough be able to implement it using WALTER?
Also, thanks for all the hard work and congratulations for reaching this milestone!

So excited its like Christmas has come early

The big meters are going to help a lot for workflow. Being able to have a better visual aide when searching for a change in the sound is more than great!

so much cleaner looking, I love it.
Question, any future for "Walter" to include an FX bin on the tcp like in the mixer? toggle of course.
Just hopeful
god I feel awful just asking for anything else.

Someday perhaps
For now, I'm happy w/ what I see for v4 so far!

Default+width and Extended Mixer Sidebar
Is it possible to have the Extended Mixer Sidebar layout display Default+width panning?
EDIT: Nevermind. Thank you WALTER.

I can't begin to express how grateful I would be if line breaks were acceptable:
like so:
Quote:
set tcp.recmon
w>372 ?recarm h<32 [111 58 19 18 0.6 0.5 0.6 0.5] [111 58 19 18 0.6 0 0.6 0]
h<58 [0] [129 58 19 18 0 0 0 0]
w>280 h<83 [0] [136 58 19 18 1 0 1 0]
w>222 h<108 [0] [136 58 19 18 1 0 1 0]
h<133 [0] [8 58 19 18 0 0 0 0]
|
instead of:
Quote:
set tcp.recmon w>372 ?recarm h<32 [111 58 19 18 0.6 0.5 0.6 0.5] [111 58 19 18 0.6 0 0.6 0] h<58 [0] [129 58 19 18 0 0 0 0] w>280 h<83 [0] [136 58 19 18 1 0 1 0] w>222 h<108 [0] [136 58 19 18 1 0 1 0] h<133 [0] [8 58 19 18 0 0 0 0]
|
maybe I'm just too accustomed to css... anyone else's eyes like the line break version more?
...

Might comma-separated lists of parameters be easier to read than those whitespace-separated ones?
Code:
set tcp.recmon
w>372 ?recarm h<32 [111, 58, 19, 18, 0.6, 0.5, 0.6, 0.5]
[111, 58, 19, 18, 0.6, 0, 0.6, 0]
h<58 [0]
[129, 58, 19, 18, 0, 0, 0, 0]
w>280 h<83 [0]
[136, 58, 19, 18, 1, 0, 1, 0]
w>222 h<108 [0]
[136, 58, 19, 18, 1, 0, 1, 0]
h<133 [0]
[8, 58, 19, 18, 0, 0, 0, 0]

compact recording mixer vertical label
If I set the Theme to Default_3.0 I have a track layout "compact recording mixer vertical label" .
With 4.0 Theme not.
Inside Default_3.0 Theme rtconfig has no Walter code. Where can I find the code?

edit rtconfig and create new layout, copy default and add
set tcp.meter [290 28 14 50 1 0 1 1] for vertical meters with numbers or
set tcp.meter [290 28 12 50 1 0 1 1] for vertical meters whithout numbers...

question was not about vertical meters.
(vertical label)
and where do the menu come from.
rtconfig from Default_3.0 is only this:
use_pngs 1
tcp_showborders 0
mcp_showborders 0
tcp_vupeakwidth 2
mcp_vupeakheight 4
mcp_mastervupeakheight 4
mcp_altmeterpos 0
use_overlays 0
transport_showborders 1
tcp_vol_zeroline 85000000
tcp_pan_zeroline 67000000
mcp_vol_zeroline 85000000
mcp_pan_zeroline 67000000

Guess I didnīt made myself clear, - sorry. What I meant was you can normally go to preference>appearence and choose "Set track lable background to custom track colors" and this is what does not work in vers 4.

It works "a bit". But you almost see no difference I know. In 3.x it was working much better (but still too dark - you don't get the chosen color displayed 1:1).

You also have to delete the values set by WALTER in rtconfig.txt. I'm sure they'll get this sorted out soon...
delete:
Code:
set tcp.label.color [blah blah the entire line blah]

Thanks a lot Now it works...
Next step is trying to change the greenish tint on most of the gui-elements.

Question/idea:
Would it be possible with Walter to create a MCP with discret lines that represent the sends or recieves(with different colors according to midi or audio for instance)? So you have an instant vision of input/output routing.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
set.tcp.label h<58 [30 8 54 18 0 0 0 0] h<32 [30 8 54 1 0.5 1 0.5] [4 26 18 54 0 0 0 1]
The 32 and less height does not scale like the mute and solo buttons even though I'm using the exact same edge settings (last 4 numbers).

Is this to do the 'scoot to fit' thing? If so;
set.tcp.label h<58 [30 8 54 18 0 0 0 0] h<32 [30 33 54 1 0.5 1 0.5] [4 26 18 54 0 0 0 1]
