Default My First MIDI song in Reaper (Inspired by Kenny)

Hey guys!

Thought I'd let you know that following Kenny's video series on YouTube I was convinced I had to try making my "First MIDI song in Reaper".
This was the convincing part of switching from Cubase Pro 9.5!
Not that the song is better than all I did before, but because I loved Reaper as soon as I digged in.

So to honor Kenny Gioia and share the result of my first accomplishment in Reaper with you guys - here is a link to my music page where I released it:
www.drocksrecords.com/en/drocks
Please look for the first song you get to (just after description).
Its "Hope" and you can't miss it with a big blueish cover art.

Thank you Kenny for your tutorials they really gather people and are inspiring.
Here is the YouTube link to his video series mentionned above:

The arrangement - for the first song in Reaper - is just fine.

The production ... there is a lot of distortion going on, and the instruments seem don't stand out on there frequencies, they need to be more separated and placed in depth/space. Don't take that as offense. Mixing needs a lot of practice and understanding. But most important are: sensible, tickling ears who are nearly as good as bat ears.

Keep on making music and get used to listen to reference songs of the same genre.

Greetings from Germany
Eli

Thank you very much and yes you have good bat ears!! My wife dont ear that distortion loll

You are right it was a production choice that i abused in the low frequencies. And its too much I agree.

Also thanks for the comment on the frenquency seperation. Its always my biggest challenge - make things sound full but carve enough space for other elements.
I tend to over emphasize fullsounding and it can mask elements.

Thanks alot talk to you later
Cheers

This is a great tune!
try to vary the arrangement.
You really got a thing for melodies.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks!! Its much appreciated.

Did you have an idea of arrangement variation in mind for example? I'm curious how you felt about it? Was it too repetitive?

I've been watching this channel on YouTube for a while and whilst his humour isn't to everyone's taste, he seems to know how to write electronic music.

I'm a metal head and I've watched almost all of his vids. There's something captivating about his delivery.

Give him a chance and don't take offence. His content gets a bit weird, but there are some gems inside each episode.

I like the ambient piano breakdown you put in there and the melody isn't cheesy. Reminds me of more laid back Italian House from the mid 90s.

I really like the percussion on this track, what did you use to create it?

Thanks, and sorry for being so late!

I used Polyplex Drums by NI. Starting with a default preset and pick-choosing individual sounds to create a custom kit. Then I modified the sample blends to better fit the song. Though I had hard time removing harshness in the claps. Without processing the raw sound was blowing your ears at like 4k-6k with the transient

It was the first time I used Polyplex too so it means this tools is user-friendly.

Thanks, D Rocks!

I've found it difficult to find a decent VSTi for drums and percussion so I'll have a look at Polyplex Drums.
