Imho rotaries are typically *much* better to use as a controller, because they have a much higher resolution (the amount of pixels you can traverse when drawing a circle is much bigger than the amount of pixels on the x and y axes). That cramped 32 parameter TouchOSC template above is still surprisingly usable on an iPhone sized screen, for example. That's also why I prefer 'circular' knob mode in REAPER's preferences and elsewhere.
For display, sliders may be preferable though, especially at a distance. YMMV of course.

re: vertical scroll.
Perhaps an multi-xy pad? for both horizontal and vertical? I'll give it a go.
re: buttons for different windows.
The ones on top of the screen cannot be moved.
EDIT: multi xy is big puzzle. Can't find any documentation about it either. It seems that it needs settings in midi tab (OSC/MIDI tab in the editor).

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. No, I don't think the page controls for TouchOSC itself can be moved (at least without applying some nifty hacks, such as hooking into the app and overriding some functions - perhaps I should try to make a Cyscript... ), but it would make an excellent FR for TouchOSC imho. They're way too big for my taste as well.

question, how easy is it to switch out layouts in touchosc?
let's say i'm working on one on an iphone that is just one big rotary encoder and i want to switch to another that is just one big XY pad. how easy/possible is this?

One tap.
(That is, to switch between two pages of a muti-page layout, one containing the big rotary, the other the big XY pad. Switching between complete mult-page layouts takes only a few taps more.)

Subz a big thumbs up for your iPhone Template. Real fun and intuitive to use.
I just lost 30 minutes, enabled some Automation in Omnisphere and Filter Sweeping my life away. Smooth
The Jog/Scrub Wheels are excellent. Zoom is a little fast but thats not your fault.
A Job well done

Subz, do you know how to connect the multi-xy?
I was thinking of using it for scroll and for zoom (you can use it with multiple fingers (up to 5) and so you could use the pinch and zoom function that is standard in touch screens. For scroll 1 finger would be enough.
I can't get it connected to Reaper. Can you?

i have had no luck yet with XY pads (but i have not tried that hard so i may be able to find a way! (i will look again when back in the studio tomorrow)
but if your iPad template uses the same .ReaperOSC file as my template i should be able to edit the ReaperOSC & TouchOSC files to add 2 extra endless controllers for V Zoom & V Scroll,
feel free to PM me a email address so we can send files back & forth!
if any one has any tips on how to set relative "r/" commands from a XY or multi XY in TouchOSC we are all ear's
can something like "r/multi-xy-name/x" work to only work on the X axis? (i will test all this tomorrow as i can test this on my iPhone)

Yes, the LogicPad template - Mixer (Volume) & Mixer (Pan, Sends) page.
We just need to map it to the Reaper equivalent functions.

you do know that there are ReaperOSC presets installed for LogicTouch & LogicPad for TouchOSC?
my ReaperTouch is a Modded LogicTouch & i got much of the code from the default LogicTouch.ReaperOSC, (FX & Sends page is still pretty much default LogicOSC bar a few added buttons)
Anyone live in (or near) Reading UK & want to lend me a iPad for a week?

I was looking for the editable LogicTouch files as well ( the .touchosc files) to see how a multi xy is connected to the .reaperosc instructions but I can't find them. Are they about somewhere?

http://hexler.net/mint/pepper/ordere...lt-layouts.zip
from Hexler Website
http://hexler.net/software/touchosc
in there are all the OSC files that come with TouchOSC you can load them in the editor from the same web page & see the commands there & compare to the ReaperOSC file

I wouldn't try to replicate this - it probably won't work well with other controls unless you're using the native gesture functions of the OS (and the Apple engineers already did a great job at this). If you really want to use gestures such as pinch and rotate in TouchOSC, I'd rather suggest asking the TouchOSC developer to support them.

Ok, got it to work finally.
I don't have the time now to make an "optimal" layout for myself, but would like to throw out the concept of a TouchOSC page that would be massively useful to me, a simplified one for reaeq's default.
A quibble as well: the size of the play and stop buttons that people seem to be using are too small IMO, I'm having to be too concientious with them - that's the first thing I'm going to modify I'm sure.

schwa gave me a hint in the other thread, though i've only got e.g two track volumes to work xy, params were being odd, but may have been fixed by now.

how should one format the pattern from the XY pad of sayy touchosc?

-schwa said:
You can use the multiparameter patterns for this. If you configure the XY pad send something like /fxparam/1,2 it will simultaneously set parameters 1 and 2 for the current selected FX. Unfortunately touchosc isn't sophisticated enough to do anything too useful, like changing which parameters get targeted at run-time.
edit -
i stopped working on my own logiclayoutmod as my ipod was often not connecting to update layouts, reaper was being buggy too before so was tricky to know if i was being dumb or not.
i do want to try doing a horizontal layout from scratch see if that helps for bigger labels and stuff..
note that copying and pasting in the touchosc editor means you can incorporate just one page from one persons layout into your own, and bodge from there.

Hi, I have the same problem and you can sort it like this.
Currently the LogicPad.ReaperOSC file reads:
REAPER_TRACK_FOLLOWS REAPER
DEVICE_TRACK_FOLLOWS DEVICE
near the beginning
You can get the tracks to follow in the Channel Strip view by changing to:
REAPER_TRACK_FOLLOWS DEVICE
DEVICE_TRACK_FOLLOWS LAST_TOUCHED
Edited to add that selecting on the device only highlights in Reaper it doesn't select the track.
by the way I started a new thread about this rather than clogging up this one: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...d=1#post935835

Post more Ipad touchOsc layouts, please.
Hey - I just joined the OSC crowd here.
However, I only find 1 layout available for download.
Can you guys post what you've been working on.
I realize layouts can be a very personal thing, however, I would like to see what others are doing, in particular layouts for the ipad. Not just the images of those layouts, the actual touchOsc layouts, please.
Thanks

Unfinished ReaOSC Template - HELP
I'm at my wits end maybe someone can't take this further than me
here is a touchosc template for reaper and a iPad
10 pages of goodness, most of what your use to in logicpad with a lot of extras
Mixer Page
- add actions
- VU meters
Mixer(pan/send) Page
- Same
Channel Strip
- VU
- Fixed insert select and float
- added some extra buttons for window floats, RTZ, plug-in reorder
Eq Page
- this page never really worked right but its better than what I had.
Software Page
- Same
Transport Page
- Same (sorta)
Actions Page
- this is what I set out to make at first lots of buttons and easy to setup!, open up the OSC editor select the button and type the CMD or Custom Id # and relabel and sync.
Global Page I gave up on the on the global (vu's and track names does work sorta to get all 99 track to work got to config file and change DEVICE_TRACK_COUNT 99 but banks won't work)
- the goal was to be able to select a track or range of tracks and adjust the volume, sends and
set actions for the selected tracks in a global view of all your tracks
- route send to last touched track, select a receive track then the send track then select the action then it routes (dreaming.. action doesn't exist)
The MIDI page
- was just a design concept for a step sequencer that used (8) ReaSamplOmatic5000 but never got it to loop or midi to work.
- the keyboard another concept (maybe osc to midi notes one day)
Media Page
- this page is perfect for comping takes!! try out the take-pad
Installation
- open the Touchosc file in the editor and sync
- put the kboogieiPad.reaOSC and the reaper-osc-actions file in the the default OSC directory
also the code is ugly!! mostly copy and paste...

K-boogie -
I used it yesterday - very cool.
I can't seem to record takes with it tho.
Meaning - I have ur preset on my ipad.
When I had it connected - the default take behavior changed.
I attempt to record a take and it does not record a take, it records over previous recording.
Which control is doing this on the layout so I will know not to press it or to troubleshoot it?
Thanks.

Reaper v4.31
it has 2 files that must be installed in order to work properly.
1) open your reaper preferences
2) go to control surfaces
3) open pattern config drop down menu
4) select open config directory
5) make sure to backup/rename your reaper-osc-actions before you do this step drag over the 2 files KBooGiEiPad.ReaperOSC & reaper-osc-actions...
6) in reaper preferences, control surface, patten config drop down select KBooGiE iPad
then ok....and you should be good!
went back over somethings last night and its some stuff i gotta fix!!
2 buttons i noticed didn't work and couple of label colors here and there

Hey I have it working. No prob with install.
My issue is what element in your layout will control the take behavior?
When I use it - it changes my take recording behavior to overwrite instead of takes.
I just need to know which of your controls does that.
EDIT - seems to be working now... weird... Sorry.

Sorry for the noobquestion... I just started out with touchosc and I totally get it, but there is just one question... I've got a very nice touchosc layout (made with the editor) here that I want to use with reaper, but how do you turn the touchosc file into an reaperosc file... I can't get it to work (the logicpadlayout works fine)
Edit: is already solved... Used the logicpad layout to solve it...

New guy here, but yes the "standard" version works fine for creating and uploading to a droid. Just enter the correct resolution. Sync even works; much to my amazement considering the lack of droid development in the past.
I haven't gotten past messing around with making a layout and I'm not a big Reaper user (been years since I've messed with it), but I've been going nuts trying to find a DAW that has good control surface support and there are a lot of "big boys" out there that have dropped the ball. OSC sounds like a great way to go in theory and from what I can tell Reaper may be the best route to go.

Yes, the editor is the same one (really no need for a different program here) and you CAN set custom sizes in the latest version, but you don't have to. The app scales layouts of different size to the available screen size automatically. Depending on how much difference there is, this might be useful or not of course. Scaling up is never much of a problem though.
The Android version is pretty much identical to its iOS brother, so I have no doubt the setup that was made for Reaper + iPad/iPhone should work no problem. Have not tried this myself, but did go through quite a couple of available setups (Logic, LiveControl, etc.) and they all seem to work just fine.

I went ahead and bought it and tried it out this weekend. The LogicTouch screen on a 7" droid is awesome. It's very similar to the Faderport from what I can tell. Setup was ridiculously easy. I've tried some of the MIDI based apps out there and having to use special little apps and setting a million IP addresses up and stuff and it works, but you get what you get and that's it. This was quick and easy and most importantly it worked right from the get go.
I would love to be able to get the LogicTouch into the editor though to see if I could modify it so that the other pages worked (or perhaps I just don't know how to use it correctly).
Very impressed with it though. And for all of us Droid owners who have been whining for this kind of thing I am hoping we can get some good layouts made up.

I took the plunge with TouchOSC yesterday, as my computer's fan noise was driving me nuts, so I wanted it out of the room, but still controllable from afar. So far I'm very happy! Even happier that the $4.99 gets me both the iPad and iPhone versions! I just installed Subz layout on my phone and it's working very well.
Thanks!
