licecap and screenshot etiquette
you folks are
ruining threads with these
unnecessarily huge licecaps and screenshots.
you make me
write each post
like a poem
so that
my text doesn't read like the great wall of china:
endless in each direction as far as the eye can see

If you choose REAPER 5 forum style (dropdown bottom left) it auto resizes embedded images.
I usually use REAPER 3 forum style though as I like it more, so yeah, I'm also seeing the wall of china at times..

I've always wondered how to add a screenshot inside of a post, not a link and how you guys resize a full screen iPad/1920x1080 monitor down to 800x600, under 64KB without losing the clarity needed to see what it is I'm referring to.

When I upload a pic that needs detail, I post it elsewhere, like imgur.
Otherwise, yeah, it will need to be compressed to crap to be that small, or you have to crop it down quite a bit.
And as someone else said, change to the Reaper 5 theme, at the bottom of the forum and the photo sizing is a non-issue. I know some people don't like that theme though.

I just crop the heck out of them and often I spend a lot of time preparing for my LICECAP so it's as compact as reasonable (adjusting REAPER view, thinking how to properly display what I need in compact manner etc.), then I might make multiple takes till it's just as it needs to be.
Then upload to imgur and just link here using "insert image"; works like a charm.
Maybe people don't spend much time on these?

I failed to mention that I was working from my iPad remotely over network, using Photoshop Express then Imgur not my pc. Still not the clarity I was hoping for but ok for now.

Same here. I usually try out how small I can make things while still being clear enough. Also, if wanting to point out a specific thing, arrows, boxes etc. are good for marking things up, along with a description of what others are supposed to be seeing. A picture worth a thousand words is not a good thing if other people can't fathom which one out of the thousand you mean. Spot the difference games can sometimes hide even the obvious in the plain sight. "Oh, you meant that?"

I was *trying* to figure out how to post an image and make it not appear GIGANTIC and consume way too much screen real estate.
The other thing I found is that attaching an image does not exhibit this anomaly, but linking to one located elsewhere does.
For example, the following images are sized 1024x768 and 640x480, yet they both hog the screen at the same visual size where neither should have caused a scroll bar.
Style 5 makes them fit the screen, but they still appear the same size visually, where the second version of that image should appear considerably smaller visually. I added the same 640x480 image as the third version as an attachment so you can see the difference. Image two and three are both 640x480 but the second one is from a remote site and the third one is attached to this post.

The bigger problem IMO isn't with large licecaps but with people who quote them in their entirety and add a trivial one-liner at the bottom that doesn't even helpfully contribute to the conversation. Of course it makes matters worse when the page contains a very wide image and one must scroll horizontally to read the sentence.

Some forums have a feature where they limit the size of the QUOTE frame, with the option to expand it on click... That would be great to have.

Thanks all. Between finding out about imgur, and the reaper 5 dropdown option, my forum experience has improved greatly.
I always trim when quoting, I wish others would do the same. I like the idea of the minimized quote.... but I'm hazarding a guess that updating the format of the forum is a pretty low priority at REAPER.

Dear Santa,
I would like a custom Reaper script that could take a screenshot on my pc or iPad, shrinks to 800x600, 64KB, attaches itself to a link, open the forum of my choice and makes it available to post, without annoying anyone.

Ah, no idea why I was on 3, but that takes care of that. OTOH, I also am for some reason repulsed by the 5 style, so back to 3, but at least now I know how to quickly switch over during great wall threads.
Thanks!

The unfortunate side-effect of the tiny size limit is a lot of broken links in the forum, which can really be frustrating when you are researching how to do something.
It seems like with the cost of storage where it is these days, that limit could be raised? At least to what an 800x600 png takes.

Sounds like a Ric 360-12, but has a fat neck at the nut unlike a Ric and cost about four times less. It's one of these Dean Boca 12-Strings, but mine has the cool sound holes that they stopped making right after I bought it in 1999.

I always wondered if Rickenbacker made them stop making sound holes that looked a lot like theirs.
