A cover of Hotel California
I don't normally post cover versions here but this is an exception. The superb acoustic guitars are by a couple of Estonian chaps, I just loved their instrumental and wanted to add suitable vocals and bass. I don't know what software they used to record but my additions are pure Reaper.
It's quite an exercise with just one voice to layer good harmonies. Let me know what you think. Cheers

A cover like this is cool because it's not a carbon copy of the original. I'm REALLY impressed by your vocals here.

Nice!
I like your Latin-like version of the song. It has some sweetness to it.
Did you do all the guitars? I'm currently tracking my classical guitar for a song I wrote and would like to get a sound like your. Any tips (mic, mic distance, eq-cuts/boosts)?

Thanks to you all for the comments, much appreciated. I think I'm getting close to the chorale feel I've been searching for on the BVs.
RDBois I can't take any credit for the guitar tracks. They were recorded by two Estonian players, the lead player is Oliver Tramms. It's beautifully recorded. I've tried to get in touch with him by email to make sure he's happy with what I've done using his backing track but so far I have heard nothing back. I feel bad about using it without prior permission but it was so inspiring; I've tried to go with the mood he and his colleague created and not detract from their work. This is their original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAKnT0g8MtA

Never heard you sing in this low key. Hardly recognized you.
Sounded really good, this too.
The BV was really good. A bit too loud or some mid, mid low freq that should be reduced.
Stellar!

Hi Mik
No end to my musical talents Vocal attack would have ruined the track. Re the mids and BV volume they're boosted deliberately to where I want them - just a question of taste! Thanks as always for the input.
One day I will re-record the BV's as thirds, fifths and sevenths etc each in a separate take lane so there is more consistency but for now I can live with it. Cheers It's all a learning curve still. BK

No Doubt, Great job Everyone!! one critic FWIW...All the vocals seem to be too out front of the trks...It seems if you drop them down a bit they would tuck just nice in the mix!
Thx, jeff

Thanks again everyone. I deliberately had the vox up high. I may tame them a bit in the light of the last few comments. I still think a re-record of the BVs might be the answer. I recorded them in sections on multiple tracks and next time I will record each specific harmony throughout the song all on the one track and so on for greater consistency. Christmas is coming and I may not get around to it until later. Great input from you all and much appreciated.

That was awesome. Good mix and I like how you took the song and made it your own.

Thanks Byron. I've just this minute updated the Bandcamp track. I've remixed to tame the vocals a little in the light of other comments. Happy New Year and thanks everyone for listening.

I really like the vocals, which makes the song stand out on its own. As the guitars (which I really like, I had come across the video before) is very close to an acoustic version by the Eagles, the very different vocals work really well! Congratulations!

Thanks NowoTone. I believe the lead player Oliver Tramm is a policeman in Estonia. I've tried to get in touch with him to make sure he doesn't object to my using his work but no response so far.
The temptation with a cover is to imitate but I'm no Henley and I wanted to put my own stamp on it.

You succeeded and your voice fits the song very well.
Btw, just read the book "Hotel California: Singer-Songwriters and Cocaine Cowboys in the La Canyons, 1967-1976" by Barney Hoskyns. Very good read for anyone interested in that era.

Nice interpretation of this song Barry.
You do know this is a drug song, yes?

Thanks for the compliment. The song, however, is whatever anyone wants to read into it. Personally I have no time for drug abuse but it produced some amazing music over the years. I only ever tried playing drunk once and couldn't hack it. Likewise with smoking weed, when I was young and foolish. Once was enough, I don't know how people could play wasted.

No worries mate, every song in the 60s and 70s was a drug song!

Superb guitar tracks, love that. My personal preference would have been to have a woman (or two women) sing this.

Well the guitar track, for which I take no credit, is available. If you can find two ladies who sing you can always have a go.
