Turns out I shouldn't upload things in the middle of the night.

Correct version is now uploaded

This breaks my usual workflow of hitting Shift-? and immediately typing a string to search for an action - instead the main window interprets my keystrokes as shortcuts. (!)

This is on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS using the Unity desktop environment.
If anyone is interested in the solution to this issue, it was caused by Compiz's Focus Stealing Prevention. Turning it off allows the Actions window to take focus immediately. (CompizConfig Settings Manager -> General Options -> Focus & Raise Behavior -> Focus Prevention Level: Off)

Agree. Just bought Reaper. Use the landoleet versions daily. Cannot wait for official native Linux release. Exited

Default Laptop touchpad requires 3 taps for double click

On my Dell XPS 15 running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS using the libinput driver for my touchpad with Tap-To-Click turned on, in REAPER native, I have to tap three times on the touchpad to register a double-click.

It's easiest to reproduce this issue in the file open/save dialogs while navigating into folders.

(Note that the physical click doesn't require 3 presses; only the Tap To Click)

I've rebuilt the SWS extension using the "Next" branch so that we can make use of the colour management fix - (updated, better to use: http://www.landoleet.org/dev/ )

I am now successfully loading and watching 1080p 50fps .MTS video files in the latest version of Linux Reaper on Fedora 26 with RPM Fusion FFMPEG libraries!

Use MKVToolNix to transcode (takes moments, DNF INSTALL mkvtoolnix-gui) to .MKV using all the default settings and just drag and drop into Reaper. This is amazing, something that did not even work on Windows last time I tried it

I am going to start trying Reaper to edit videos properly... does anyone recommend I convert to another video format for editing? I am not an expert at video formats, but I understand .MTS is very high compression so will use a lot of CPU for playback.

Default Drag and drop

I'm not able to benefit from drag and drop, dropping elements into Reaper makes Reaper unresponsive.
I use openbox-3.6.1, draging from SpaceFM-1.0.5

Very true. I really like the tom gate so far, wish it had some more controls to shape the envelope. It seems to work well for kick and snare too

When I just installed a U-HE plugin it created a .VST folder.

When I scan for new plugins in Reaper and go to ADD, then the folder that I use to pick locations from has no .[folders] hidden folders visible.

The only non terminal way to get the address was to use the file explorer and go and copy the path.

This seems an important fix (unless I am missing something obvious!)

Hi, just delete .vst, and inside .u-he, delete the plugin folder,

create your own .vst folder, and reinstall the plugin.
The installer creates a link inside .vst to the plugin
in .u-he. Add .vst to your daw app's vst scanning list,
clear cache (and blacklist, if existing) and rescan.
Some u-he plugins are 'bundles', The latest
Repro-5 beta download provides both Repro-1 and Repro-5,
but you won't see them in a folder as separate .so files,
while your daw app will, and lets you use both.

When scanned, some u-he bundle plugins may not be in the
expected plugin list, so check the other lists your daw app presents,
like 'all', 'new' instruments, vsti, effects etc
Cheers

vsti designer kx77free at kvr found these setting to help some issues:

Recommended Reaper VST settings:
With small Asio buffers if you experimented Reaper bugs when you reloaded a session without to close Reaper before.
To fix it > Preference > Plug-ins > VST > "Allow complete unload of VST plug-ins" (to clean all current session memory).
If you listen audio "pops" when you edit something on Reaper with Asio4All.
To fix it > FX windows > Compatibility settings > "Save minimal undo steps".

Cheers

I am currently beta testing the new u-he Linux beta build of the awesome Repro-5 and having some problems. The developer, abique, asked if anyone had contacted the Reaper developers.

I am pretty sure it's not the fault of Reaper, but here is a link to the thread I posted the bug in case anyone has some input

https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewt...953&start=1050

(check 11 posts down...)

Hi, these are longshots, seeing as the other
plugins work, but have you tried any different Reaper themes?

If on a laptop, have you tried different screen resolutions?
Or an external monitor which may have different default settings?
(or a second monitor if on a desktop, with two video-outs?)

Are your kernel and system updates fairly well in sync?
I know installing the latest kernel on a working
stable system can be like testing glass thickness
with various sized rocks...

Hope Abique dives into this one! My wild guess is it's something
new in the build tool's that just needs a little whuppin'
behind the barn

I saw a CentOS based video system exists, 'Resolve DaVinci',
with free and $229 versions, and $more$ with dedicated hardware options.

They have a ready-to-roll CentOS iso, handy, as Resolve requires
a full nvidia/cuda setup and a new enough video card.
The iso install wipes ALL connected drives, so be careful.

There is also a separate installer (400+ meg) which might work
when system needs are met. A linux version discussion is here:

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/v...p?f=21&t=56878

(typical range of ubuntu.arch.deb users trying to get
the requirements met, and the dev comments sometimes,
even though only CentOS is supported)

Main page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/

( I don't know much about video at all)
Cheers

Thanks for this info!

I have wanted to use Resolve for ages, but don't have Nvidia hardware and don't really want it. They are famous for causing problems for Linux, so it's a pity that it's mandatory for Resolve.

I read the thread you linked, and Linux Resolve does not support audio without using their special hardware This is the big show stopper that black magic don't mention! Maybe it gets an update in the future, but for now getting a new video card and new black magic audio card is not happening. Will we ever be free of Windows?!

I have been working on an install script for Centos for Web development and general use. To get the latest software you need to install a couple of extra repos, but they are both pretty much official and have all the cool stuff needed

I think it should be great for audio and Reaper, but have not set it up yet. I seem to becoming a Linux sysadmin rather than getting any work done LOL

I use a nvidia card on linux and it works great. I thought Nvidia has the better history for linux compared to AMD, though I guess it's no longer quite the distinction it used to be. (I'm speaking of the proprietary driver(s), as opposed to the open source options.)

On windows, I think you can use OpenCL on AMD GPUs now (resolve version 14).

The other issue on linux is no h.264 decode or encode.

It is frustratingly difficult to get a clear answer on these questions when researching, I will agree. Especially when websites (including Davinci's) say that "hey it's free and it runs on mac/win/linux!". But hey, they're trying to sell hardware, and it's a pretty awesome free offering. Hopefully they sort out h.264 and audio soon! It's tantalizingly close...

Reaper is unusable when started without desktop, on its own:

startx ./reaper5

- impossible to open main menus or context menu. Once you click menu option, menu gets open and then immediately closed. Same when trying to open it with keyboard, e.g. Alt+F.

encountered on latest Ubuntu 16

Some other operations that are done with mouse, like selecting, clicking icons, do work, so may be it's specific to menu controls.

Just tested it on a fresh Ubuntu install to make sure it's not the result of me messing with the system

Hi there. The linux version of REAPER works great on Debian Unstable. Thank you. I had only a very minor issue, but I could fix it myself:

I'm using version 5.65rc5 x86_64, and while trying the 'JS: MIDI Map To Key v2' plugin, I noticed that it wouldn't show the "00 - Default Mapping.txt" file in the "Mapping File" slide, or any of my custom map files. I investigated and found the plugin was expecting the "IX_keymaps" directory to be in lowercase. Renaming "IX_keymaps" directory to "ix_keymaps", inside the [ ~/.REAPER/Data/ ] solved the issue. Symbolic linking works too, i.e: [ $ln -s IX_keymaps/ ix_keymaps ].

Yeah, REAPER needs a window manager to be usable... try running xfce4 or similar...

I still can't get REAPER to behave like it does on my Windows PC with respect to the audio paths. What I want is to have all the project-specific audio files in a subfolder "audio", and all the peak files in a subfolder "peaks" underneath that audio folder.

I don't even know how I managed to do that on Windows, as I could NOT get a new installation of REAPER on another Windows PC to behave like that either.

Any ideas?

I don't even know how I managed to do that on Windows, as I could NOT get a new installation of REAPER on another Windows PC to behave like that either.

Any ideas?
Open settings and set path in the media tab to "audio", hit "Save as default project settings" and you're good to go

That's what I'm doing. It does not work.

New audio files are still being stored right beside the project file, and the peak files are stored under /tmp/something ...

Just want to point out that reapack did not want to run on my debian stretch install. Had a look at my syslog and it could not find libcurl.so. Did an apt-get install libcurl3 and relaunched reaper. I now have a full functional reapack in native linux!

TL;DR reapack needs libcurl3

How did you get it installed on Debian? Did you built it yourself? Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work (official release or self-built) on Ubuntu.

EDIT: you probably just installed the official release which also probably works just fine with Stretch or Ubuntu 16.04, but not with my older OS
