Good reverb for Linux? (SOLVED)
Hi there good folks,
I went to search through that other thread on good plugins, as well as some other websites, but I unfortunately am unable to find a good Linux reverb plugin. There are some weird sounding ones, which are great for soundscaping and the like, but I'm really looking into a good algorithmic or hybrid reverb native Linux plugin (VST, LV2, etc. doesn't matter). Do you have one to suggest? Thanks, - A EDIT: Obviously, this topic has been 'solved', with a plethora of suggestions. So for anyone coming by, have a look. Lots of choices. Some of my faves:
A high quality commercial plugin from our own mike@overtonedsp (let's support developers who support Linux!): https://www.acmt.co.uk/products/down...0x1/index.html 2 JSFX verbs from Tukan Studios Lexikan-RD and Lexikan2: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=260754 TAL Reverb II (TAL does several free reverbs, but this is my fave) https://tal-software.com/products/tal-reverb The excellent LSP convolution verb: https://lsp-plug.in/ Aether: https://github.com/Dougal-s/Aether The Dragonfly reverb series: https://michaelwillis.github.io/dragonfly-reverb/ |

I love the sound of EOS2, I purchased the full version, but I have to be honest, it's buggy. It sometimes doesn't initialize properly. When I open a project that has EOS2 in it, sometimes the tracks with EOS2 either have no sound, or only the right channel has sound. When that happens, if I open the EOS2 FX window, Reaper freezes, and I have to *log out* to get Reaper to close.
It only happens *sometimes* but it happened often enough that I stopped using it. I've emailed Audio Damage support about this. I hope they get it fixed. |

Actually don't have any native Reverbs. They're all running perfectly in wine though. Perfect Plate is my fave atm and it's on sale.
Sai'ke makes some nice JS plugs. If you have ReaPack, try LavaVerb.

Exactly, you don't need more than that and some impulses.

Wow, thanks for the great response team, didn't expect there was so much choice to be frank!
Yeah, I also used ReaVerb with an impulse, but I try to avoid IR reverbs because they are tough to control through automation. But are awesome for realism, so I pick the tool suitable for the task. Anyway, there are some great algorithmic here as well, thanks again! |

I've been liking TAL Reverb 4 a lot recently. Also Airwindows Verbity and Chamber sound surprisingly good for how simple and CPU friendly they are.
I kinda fell off the IR stuff, personally. They can sound pretty good, sure, but algorithmic reverbs just often seem easier and simpler, less static and (depending on plugin) more CPU friendly... And for the kind of stuff I'm doing (electronic music) I don't necessarily care about getting the most realistic sounds possible.

bkReverb, part of the free bkFX bundle:
https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=369138 Controls deliberately kept simple, very CPU-friendly. Equally suited for small ambience and long reverb tails. (disclaimer: I'm the dev). |

One that is not 'in the box' (ITB) is: live (or using recorded tracks) tracking with a good mic and monitors and adjust the speaker output and distance from mic. Old school just really good and better than most plugins... tc

Our own Panagement is a free reverb, it's not only a binaural pan+distance.

Beautiful, Lalelu! Extremely low CPU usage, and very nice-sounding!! Thank you very much for this gem! Side note : Firefox says the KVR download is "insecure". I downloaded it anyway, but I just wanted to point it out... |

Okay here is my contribution, these are all impulse responses but great nonetheless:
- Lexicon 480l: https://www.housecallfm.com/download...l-lexicon-480l - Bricasti M7: https://samplicity.com/bricasti-m7-i...esponse-files/ - U-He Protoverb https://www.audiopluginsforfree.com/1422-2/ - Orilriver: This one is a windows plugin but works great on LinVst or Yabridge https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2538/ If you have ReaPack you can install the Tukan Studios plugins, they have a very nice version of the Lexicon reverbs too. For actual Linux-native reverbs not already mentioned: zita-rev1 (via JACK or there's an LV2 available via rev-plugins package and you can also download VST or whatever you like via Faust). Also Harrison's Gverb+ https://harrisonconsoles.com/product/xt-gv-gverb/. These plus IRs such as Samplicity may be all you need. Unfortunately, for critical applications (read classical audio people pay me to master) I feel nothing quite beats Phoenixverb/Nimbus/R2/R4 but luckily they work by local activation via iLok manager on Linux.

Also, that Housecall 480 one has not been available to download in ages. Shame, as I used to have it way back & it was pretty good. I would appreciate anyone having a working d/l address for it letting me know

I've been so stuck on the quad Bricasti impulses for True Stereo, that I've sort of forgotten about BG's Lexicon impulses. I'm going to have to re-visit those, particularly for things like vocal tracks. Edit: well since ReaVerb kinda sucks for trying to do TrueStereo, I went ahead and made ReaVerb default to using the BG 480 samples in plain jane stereo. That way I can just add ReaVerb to a track and it's ready to pick an impulse from the 480, and loading the LSP Impulse Reverb defaults to the quad format Bricasti impulses for True Stereo. It would be nice if this wasn't the case. Surprised this wasn't a quick fix by the devs For now it's limited to a reverb bus at 100% wet (some would say the best way but still...clearly a bug regarding dry turning mono).

For verbs on vocals or guitars, I can use ReaVerb where I don't need the more realistic sound of True Stereo reverb. If the devs were gonna work on something that makes more difference to me, they could either bring back the "pull handle down to maximize" functionality that was removed for folks like me who almost exclusively use Free Item Positioning, https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...02&postcount=6 or follow through with the "we'll also add an action to resize items on FIPM tracks to the maximum size that will fit" https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...0&postcount=14 It's a pain to have to drag media items UP only so you can then drag their handles DOWN. Used to be able to just drag down and the media item would expand to fill the height of the track. |

They introduced the channel router ability but very astonishingly same does not allow for true stereo possibility. At least I did try hard and was not able to configure it to do that due to some weird internal limitation. (Discussion on that in some forum thread.) -Michael |

The issue as described by Glennbo is that unless you use it 100% wet on a bus, any dry signal amount is converted to mono which is incredibly odd. Devs -- please could you have a look at fixing this shortcoming? Plus, it would be wonderful to load up a 4-channel IR and for it to default to pin settings that produce true stereo. If the configuration of the IR is not LLRR then the user can go into the pins and configure as appropriate.
