Is it somehow related to behavior in this thread? https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=227303

Regarding media item lanes.
After experimenting with them a lot recently. I can't help but feel an pixel option for a gap between each lane would be very useful visually?
I myself would love to set it up so items on the same lane have no gap or overlap (100%) so I know they are on same lane and will crossfades etc but would love a small vertical gap for new lanes so that it's easy to make them standout from items on the same lane.
Anyone else?

I would say I would be fine how it is, but I don't have much sense of aesthetic so I would try with some small separator, I also sometimes get a little confused when is or not another lane.
Question conserning lanes it haves already some script api? I know we can deduce using get y position from items, but it would require a different api as y can be offset can be lanes can be free item position. One just for lanes could be useful in the future.
Edit: Would be good
get item lane
get lane under mouse
Should Item lanes: Move item down one lane (when showing multiple item lanes) create a lane if there isnt one?

Agreed for an option, or another solution could be if there were horizontal lines for each lane to stand out better, preferably with an option to change their color or opacity from theme tweaker.
Also i would LOVE to have an indicator on TCP to show if the track has fixed lanes or not, That would be very useful when the track height is collapsed or when there's an empty space without items at some part of the timeline. Now it's impossible to guess when this happens. Also from this indicator we could set the lanes to fixed or not.

That would be good. And also the ability to highlight all the items of a certain lane.

I found no other problems. Only the loss of toolbar, which is not critical.

Yes! Here was my short list I posted re: dev0605... - item lane divider line (themeable like envelope lane divider line)
- grouped items across tracks (e.g. drums) should move together across lanes... or into newly created lanes
- selectable active playback lane which passes audio, with track group membership option
- Options: show only active lane

to move item together across lanes you can use
Item lanes: Move item up one lane (when showing multiple item lanes)
Item lanes: Move item down one lane (when showing multiple item lanes)
There is not (at least until now) a "active lane", so....

This works across tracks?
Am I correct that this only works if the lanes exist? One cannot, for example, move a group of tracks’ items to a new lane.
The “active lane” is a FR for me.

This work across tracks.
If you are going down with the items it will not create a new lane if there is not a lane bellow.
I suggested to create a new lane if the item is already on the lowest lane. Let's see what happen. In worst case this could potentially be created via script.
Which comes to mind in a API would be good also
Set item to lane
Create/insert lane in a track
