Default VST strings - how to change to pizzicato

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help me with changing the articulation from arco (legato) to pizzicato for the strings in MIDI.
I have the Halion Orchestra VST Library and I don't have a clue to how to activate the pizzicato.

I tried in the MIDI window and also in the VST library window, but without any success!...

It looks to me like the keyswitch for pizzicato is C#0, but in your MIDI editor, you have note D#0.

If that doesn't fix it, also check to make sure that both Reaper and Halion are configured with the same MIDI octave definition (i.e., that they both say middle C is C3, or they both say that middle C is C4).

Thank you,

I've put C#0 in the MIDI editor, but it still doesn't work. And I think they have the same octave definition. In the Halion window octave is set to 0...

I am not familiar with Halion.

I know there are some VSTi where playing the keyswitch note turns on the articulation/effect until a new keyswitch note is played, and some VSTi where the keyswitch note needs to be sustained for the entire duration of the musical passage that is to be affected.

You have it written with the C#0 keyswitch note playing and stopping before the musical notes.

Does it work if you extend the keyswitch note to be on for the entire duration of the musical notes?

Make sure that they both define middle C (note # 60) the same way. If Halion calls middle C C3, and you have Reaper set up so that middle C is C4 (or vice versa), then even if both Halion and Reaper say C#0, they will be different note numbers and the keyswitch won't work.

Have you tried C#1? And C#-1?

Default Thank you!

Thank you both, you were both right!!

It worked when I put it to C#1 and I must sustain it for the duration of the passage in pizzicato.

Thank you! Cheers!

The octave difference between the note name in Reaper and the keyswitch in HALion is seen with many other instrument plug-ins. There are several standards for naming MIDI notes!

You can align the names: in Reaper Preferences, go to Media > MIDI and set the "octave name display offset" to -1. That ONLY changes the note names in Reaper, not the actual notes.

Pluck the keys instead of pressing them
