Cool! My Linux available video decoder has gone from:

========== ffmpeg/libav ==========
ffmpeg/libav DLL decoder v56.60.100

to:

========== ffmpeg/libav ==========
ffmpeg/libav DLL decoder v58.18.100

I have:

Name : ffmpeg
Version : 4.0.2
Release : 1.fc28

Installed... so is Reaper now picking this up OK? I don't really understand the relationship between FFMPEG and ffmpeg/libav version numbers.

Yes that means that ffmpeg v4 has been picked up by reaper. You also ought to be able to use vlc v3 since a while back.

Cheers Jack!

VLC is rubbish compared to MPV, that's where it's at

I don't really mean that you have to use VLC..

But installing it ought to give you another backend to use in reaper.

Do we need to manually update the ffmpeg to v4, or is it included in the REAPER install?

Have v1 installed here of ffmpeg

You might have to test that. For video playback,I had better performance with vlc than with ffmpeg 3.

I am talking about using the standalone applications (mpv/vlc) as video players on Linux including all the features(including bloat)/lack of features of both as well as relative CPU/GPU performance. Better not get into the details here as it's off topic...

It's not included in reaper, but uses whatever is available on the OS.

I'm not sure how far back support goes, but for both ffmpeg and vlc some older versions also ought to work. You can see what reaper has picked up in prefs->video->show available decoder information.

On Fedora to get the full FFMPEG 4 you need to:

Quote:
sudo dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

sudo dnf install ffmpeg
As it's not technically 100% 'free software' it needs to come from a 3rd party repo.

Hm, I'm not able to get ffmpeg (3.4.2 and 4.0) working on macOS at all.
I put all the dylib plugins in my UserPlugins folder.
When clicking on "Show available decoder information", I only get the internal
ffmpeg codec displayed. I also moved the dylibs to Applications, but this didn't help either. Any idea what else I could try?

sorry if adressed earlier.
how does one delete the wires in the track wiring mode

P.s - Only show wires on mouseover perfect ! takes away necessary clutter on big track counts !

The way that they are linked on macOS requires them to go in a system library path.. You can try /Users/<your username>/lib

Currently supported ffmpeg versions are 54 (1.2.x), 56 (2.8.x), 57 (3.0), and 58 (4.0). There's no need to upgrade to 4.0, 3.0 or 2.8 should work fine I'd think.

Awesome, thanks, that worked.

Maybe you should add this path in the description where it says:

Code:
ffmpeg/libav search path:
  $PATH
  /Applications
  /Users/stevie/Library/Application Support/REAPER/UserPlugins
  /Applications/REAPER64.app/Contents/Plugins

Is hardware (GPU) decoding/encoding working in REAPER with FFmpeg?

Decoding: regarding the performance I would say no. VLC is still faster.

Thanks, fixing that!

Also if you want to do it for all users, /usr/local/lib/ is another usable path.

# Melodyne: improve keyboard command pass-through to plugin

This is not working, I'm sorry to say. Try out CTRL+Z and CTRL+A, they pass straight through to REAPER.

Hi Justin,

This is with VST3 v4.2.013. v4.2.014 is the latest but only contains a crash fix regarding copy/paste of blobs.
