Use .wav Poly files in Reaper?
Good evening,
In a recording session this morning, we started a take but "record" in Reaper was not pressed in time and missed the first couple of bars of music.
Reaper is recording 8 channels of audio (4 stereo pairs).
We are using two Sound Devices 744T as backup machines and those were left running so we have the needed material on those. Now, I need to get it into Reaper.
The Sound Devices are outputting .wav Poly files so, when I try to Insert the file into Reaper, it places all 4 tracks (from one machine) into one stereo track.
Is there a way to insert poly files so that they are properly attached to their intended tracks?
Many thanks for your help!

Reaper tracks can have up 64 channels and each can be sent to whichever physical output or track you want to using the send section of the channel strip. You could set up 2 stereo sends for each track (1st channels 1-2, 2nd channels 3-4) that bus the audio to the intended destination tracks you would put the separate stereo files on. This will work as long as you don't need to discretely edit 2 of the 4 tracks (ie. cut/paste or move).

Right click on item, then Item Processing. Click "Explode Multi-Channel Audio or MIDI Items to New Mono Items"

this creates new files on HDD - there are actions (native and SWS) that wont do that, while still 'separating'/setting the media to mono or stereo channels.
type in "channel" in the actions search field, and youll see.

LOL yes, direct.. Reaper has 128+ native actions for this. SWS added the missing ones.. (set all takes to next/prev mono/stereo)

It's come to the point where I don't want to imagine Reaper without all the fx and action search functions.

Hi all,
Thanks very much for the tips. I do need, ultimately, to have stereo tracks, not individual mono but, this points me in a good direction.
I'll experiment with this after today's sessions.
Best,
P

You may be able to use Wave Agent to split your poly files into mono or possibly stereo files. It is a free download from Sound Devices:
